You can’t say no to generative ai art because it’s not art 😾
Be generous & call it flattery.
ANYTHING is art to someone. Even ai art. Its nonsensical and shitty.
But art is in the eye if the beholder. No one gets to dictate what is or is not art to anyone else.
I don’t believe ai art is “real” art. But only a Nazi would claim someone’s art is not art to them.
People also used to say that about photography
Same difference between:
“I’ve used this instrument to capture a panoramic shot in a very peculiar position, with a precise light and a precise exposure, all to give a dramatic effect to the image”
and
“I’ve clicked the button of the food vending machine in a precise order, so, i’m basically cooking”
AI is a medium, whether it becomes art or not depends on who is using it, just as photography or any other medium out there.
Depending on who is using it ; It’s still crap.
Stop deluding yourself. Ai is copy/paste with extra steps. You can write the “War and Peace” of all prompts, the program will still give you a random mesh-up of per-existent stuff with some nice filter on top.
Art isn’t just about making pretty pictures. Also, to dismiss something because it is derivative would also apply to any human creation ever made.
Everything that you say and think is a “mesh up of pre existing stuff”. Creation is a mixture of familiarity and noise, where the noise comes from your emotions, genetic makeup, and life experiences.
And if you are prepared to waste days upon days upon something because you want to create something nice. Why don’t cut the middle-man(bot) and just start train some skill.
That can’t be always done because sometimes AI itself is part of the exposition. Here’s my favorite example: https://youtu.be/7fNYj0EXxMs
I’d rather have bad art done by a human than bad art done by a clanker

I don’t consider AI images art, so I use them instead of Photoshop
I would posit many of the edits people do with Photoshop ARE art; unlike AI slop.
It’s a minor thing in the grand scheme but I actually hate that generative AI has ruined the art of the hasty Photoshop. The fact that it was done in five minutes before the discussion moves on so it looks like shit was 100% part of the appeal, and clankers have destroyed that little bit of internet culture.
Do you mainly mean outside of meme/shitpost/adjacent communities? They absolutely know the value of the aesthetic, so I think you can count on it sticking around in some circles at least.

It was much better when everyone bought the same photo of the Eiffel tower from IKEA for the last 30 years. Artists were super in demand and lived lavish lifestyles before AI. There’s centuries of literature which talks about how amazing the life of artists was, but now those damned computers and their capitalist owners have doomed artistic wealth and spirit forever.
What is this even saying? Art didn’t pay well before AI so now we should pay them even less? What even is that logic?
Maybe it’s a weird take on the argument saying AI somehow “democratized” art.
So now instead of everyone having the same generic art from IKEA, people can instead hang some
terribleunique slop on their walls you better not look at too closely.
You’re aware that not every artist has the same story as Van Gogh, right? There are a tremendous amount of people who live off of their art successfully, both currently and throughout history. Also, is capital the only thing that applies value to something in your view?
I agree with the spirit of the message but lets not use Nazi terminology to refer to awesome queer sexy raunchy kinky stuff.
I may not be the most terminally online person out there, but this is the first time I’ve seen anybody refer to “degen” as nazin terminology. I googled it and it’s all referring to gamblers and late night gamers and perverts. If they ever claimed the word, it doesn’t belong to them anymore.
Hell yeah. Nothing belongs to them. Nazis don’t get to have things even when they do belong to them.
From what we’ve heard, the neo-Nazis and suchlike tend to use “degenerate” on anyone they don’t like.
Particularly us furries.

Thanks for the info. I suppose calling someone else a “degen” or similar would be in poor taste in many situations, given that it is often used by people in a derogatory manner anyhow. But the most common usage I see is members of esoteric communities calling themselves that, like Linux ricers or hardcore gamers or cyclists who “under-bike” (using a bike clearly under-equipped for the task at hand). This tongue-in-cheek use of “degeneracy” feels almost endearing to me, like self-deprecating humor
I hope I never see someone using the term in a truly derogatory way, and certainly hope the number is Nazis stays small compared to what I’ve seen. I don’t think it makes sense to stop using the word just because they use it, since that would just enable them to take whatever words they want.
Claiming degen is Nazi speach is just yet another form of algospeak. It’s self censorship.
Fuck anyone who tries to curate the speach of another just because a company dislikes it or a group you disagree with.
The only person who can choose what is or is not acceptable speech is yourself. If you allow others to control everything you say you might as well rip out your tongue and suckle on a hot fireplace poker cuz your mouth sure ain’t worth f****** anything at that point.
A good person will understand that words can hurt others and shoes not to use those words in a manner and which it is intended to cause harm. But a word spoken with no intent of harm is not a word that should be censored.
How are your fucking legs doing?
Huh? My fucking legs?

I thought you were making a reference to the character Morning Frost from Avantris. He’s a tiger person and has repeatedly been in situations to say “MY FUCKING LEGS!!!”
Oh, nah, that’s just my name!
We’ve literally never even heard of Avantris, so yeah, I didn’t get the reference. :3
still I reserve the right to reject the label being applied to me and my friends who feel similarly
