  • Can you, though?

Because when I was still using W10 a few years ago I tried every trick I could find and it still auto updated...

  • Automatic, yes.

Forced without consent with no option to disable them? No.

  • I've heard that one before...

At this point I have absolutely zero expectations for GOG until they actually deliver on any of their Linux promises.

  • Yeah, I'm still wired, so that definitely helps.

I can't wait for Steam Frame tho...

  • I've been using Linux exclusively for the past few years, even VR games work fine since a while.

  • AdGuard or uBlock won’t save you

I'll just do what I always did on websites that think they have a say in the matter: leave and never come back.

  • There’s so much shit that simply doesn’t work

People complaining about Wayland always like to say that, but usually don't give any specific examples.

If it really was so bad then all major distros and DEs wouldn't be actively working to switch.

For what it's worth, since a few years Wayland works better on my PC than X11 ever did, and with more features.

  • Except they responded to a post talking about an Arch-based distro, so Fedora isn't relevant here.

  • What kind of argument is that?

It's already in AUR, you can install it right now if you want.

  • No, I'm pretty sure it's still all the rape and murder.

  • I also have the freedom to complain about his terrible choices, which I will.

  • Oh, how I wish "they're making a new season" was a reliable mark of quality...

  • The reason is, I don't wanna.

There isn't any game I want to play bad enough to install malware on my device.

  • Seriously, of all the things to get upset about...

At least Proton (on paid plan anyway) doesn't spam you with the promotions, unlike the competition you can tell them to fuck off after showing it once instead of "remind me later".

  • Yes, actually.

"We want to make it as easy as possible for the 2,500 games on Steam to run on Linux as well," said Mr Newell."Windows 8 is a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space."

  • That's true, but unfortunately some of them were against it for all the usual incorrect reasons. :/

  • Yes, it is worth it to remember.

They naively expected publishers and developers to give a shit.

But after that failure they worked hard for years and contributed and donated to open source projects. That allowed Linux to become a true competitor in gaming space with zero vendor lock-in.

Whatever their reasons were, the results are objectively positive for nearly everyone.

  • It probably will anyway.

Index and Steam Deck both sold like crazy on release, Valve has already proven itself with their hardware.

  • There's really nothing new, it's the same as it was on the Steam Deck.

If the devs are not assholes they can easily allow Proton, from what Valve said before often all it takes is literally one checkbox on their side.
