some people think they’re good at coding but I haven’t seen it. they make a lot of code but a lot of it is wrong, and you’ve still got (optimistically) the same number of engineers as before to review the output. building the scaffolding to get something useful out of coding agents is time-consuming, the results are brittle, and your chatbot or agent framework vendor can break it at any time.
the only unalloyed wins for llms that I’ve been able to find are:
- scripting tasks that require image recognition
- language translation
even 30b local models are very, very good at these.

I think it’s closer to AI rollouts being abject failures because the technology is nowhere capable enough to justify the cost, so the MBA’s the fucked up their businesses are now trying to blame the workers. The tech can’t be bad, it’s the Zoomers
Yes and no. Yes in the sense that the envisioned future has no place for them. No in the sense that industrial textile manufacturing actually increased the productive output of society as a whole.
That’s not the same stuff. If I am to believe that I am what I do then, the things I put out there is a part of me, if I snap a pic of myself, record my voice, record as much data of myself as I can, that’s like a sort of simulacra. In theory you could observe me in great detail and note down everything you know about me, then using an advanced algorithm technology replicate a copy and you have created a gestalt.
So to speak, what I’m asking and the fundamental question you have to answer is: if you’re trying to sell me a tool that’s supposed to decide for me, solve my problems, entertain me, write and summarize and read out my literature, why do I need you? I could just use the technology directly and are you a conservative luddite fetishizing labor if you refuse to accept progress? Because that is what a lot of AI bros want me to accept and say that I’m a luddite if I don’t like it when I find out something was generated. Feels pretty shit to think about, probably why there’s a distain for this tech.
