Funny. I‘m wondering when the EU starts working on how to boot Hungary. It’s a pity for the people, but if the government keeps on kicking European values with feet, maybe the need some time off.
I seriously doubt it. If I remember correctly in the last election Orban opponents united into one alliance with the goal of beating Orban and even against the unified opposition Fidesz still won the majority of parliamentary seats.
I have no idea what would have to happen for Orban to get voted out of power. It’s just not going to happen.
This seems like the better position imo, not kicking them out entirely but keeping them out of the decision making proces. Problem is, a governments like that will not likely hold back or consider the broader consequences of it’s actions. Maybe even better would be to invest in institutions that prevent a member state’s democracy from slipping into dictatorships, so it will be made impossible for someone to become the next Orbán.
Eh… that is what European funding is for. Strengthen democratic institutions. Anyhow implementing a majority vote instead of the unanimous vote could be a start…

Hungarian parliamentary elections are due in April 2026, so maybe that problem is solved then.

The polls actually look quite good for the opposition. They however are also pretty right wing. Just not as far as Orban.
Seriously. Maybe then Slovakia will fall in line as well.
