Organizational restructuring takes yet another. Shit sucks. Find it hard to remain hopeful for anything ever again in this state of capitalist America.
Unfortunately, I can’t write a program that manipulates a file faster than someone who knows the bare bones of LLMs. Even if I did use a LLM to do the same, it really wouldn’t matter. My fatal flaw was strongly believing that capitalists care about duct-taped deliverables, but unfortunately they couldn’t care less.
Sending good vibes! It fucking sucks out there. 2 years since my last job, and im switching from tech to Americorps rn. If you wanna chat, hit me up!
Appreciate you
Any tips on how people find work these days in this era of enshittified everything?
What field are you looking in? I came from ~12 years in tech, so thats my background. Seems like were in similar boats but just clarifying.
Yeah, that’s right. Only have about 5ish years under my belt at this point though.
In all honesty though, I might be utterly boned because I never really learned anything other than databases and system design, which is knowledge slop machines can easily emulate from stolen information on stack overflow.
The position was created just a couple of months ago but eliminated because it wasn’t returning the expected results (obviously this wasn’t said to me but I know it’s what happened).
My manager was treating me like a child and preventing me from making decisions because he didn’t trust me (for whatever reason), and I spent more time waiting for his approval than completing the work we discussed during the onboarding. Like, what the hell man? Shouldn’t he be reprimanded for poor management instead of cutting the person who was actually trying?
So, aside from the usual LinkedIn/Indeed/etc, id also recommend checking out Angels List for jobs at startups. There’s also Work For Good which is a lot of tech stuff for nonprofit. Don’t be afraid to embellish your resume.
Biggest thing i have to say is IT IS A NUMBERS GAME AND IT SUCKS. There were weeks where id literally apply for 200+ tech jobs, and only got one interview if any at all. It fucking sucks, is fucking, death to amerikkka and i hate it, but it id what it is and please do not internalize it as a reflection on you or your skills.
Ill post more as it comes, and my inbox is always open!
Super appreciate it more than you know comrade. It sounds like you’ve certainly been around the block and know your stuff
Happy to help how I can! Im on discord and shit too, and am not shy about giving my info out, just dm me!
Back when I was trying, my system was to open up the Wikipedia pages for every city and town close enough to work at, find links to all their school districts and libraries and universities and city websites. Open every job listing on every site and apply to everything slightly in my wheel house.
In my experience school and government jobs are less shit than corporate jobs. They pay 30% less but you get treated like a human being. Sometimes the benefits are good… not always.
I see database and system design listings. It’s shit out there but good luck. Fingers crossed
