Organizational restructuring takes yet another. Shit sucks. Find it hard to remain hopeful for anything ever again in this state of capitalist America.

Unfortunately, I can’t write a program that manipulates a file faster than someone who knows the bare bones of LLMs. Even if I did use a LLM to do the same, it really wouldn’t matter. My fatal flaw was strongly believing that capitalists care about duct-taped deliverables, but unfortunately they couldn’t care less.

Right there with you. My girlfriend got the same because enrollment was low in the school district. She put a lot of time and energy into getting her classroom set up and structured and now she’ll be out by Monday. We’re devastated and also signed in on a new apartment lease.

      heart-sickle

I recently closed on a house as well. Truly don’t know what the fuck I’m going to do

Rent still would have been more expensive per month than the mortgage, so I’m not terribly upset about the decision to maybe build equity in the future, but I hate how this organizational accountability failure will be seen as a personal failure on my part. I’m sure that your partner can empathize

Yeah, that’s right. Only have about 5ish years under my belt at this point though.

In all honesty though, I might be utterly boned because I never really learned anything other than databases and system design, which is knowledge slop machines can easily emulate from stolen information on stack overflow.

The position was created just a couple of months ago but eliminated because it wasn’t returning the expected results (obviously this wasn’t said to me but I know it’s what happened).

My manager was treating me like a child and preventing me from making decisions because he didn’t trust me (for whatever reason), and I spent more time waiting for his approval than completing the work we discussed during the onboarding. Like, what the hell man? Shouldn’t he be reprimanded for poor management instead of cutting the person who was actually trying?

So, aside from the usual LinkedIn/Indeed/etc, id also recommend checking out Angels List for jobs at startups. There’s also Work For Good which is a lot of tech stuff for nonprofit. Don’t be afraid to embellish your resume.

Biggest thing i have to say is IT IS A NUMBERS GAME AND IT SUCKS. There were weeks where id literally apply for 200+ tech jobs, and only got one interview if any at all. It fucking sucks, is fucking, death to amerikkka and i hate it, but it id what it is and please do not internalize it as a reflection on you or your skills.

Ill post more as it comes, and my inbox is always open!

Back when I was trying, my system was to open up the Wikipedia pages for every city and town close enough to work at, find links to all their school districts and libraries and universities and city websites. Open every job listing on every site and apply to everything slightly in my wheel house.

In my experience school and government jobs are less shit than corporate jobs. They pay 30% less but you get treated like a human being. Sometimes the benefits are good… not always.

I see database and system design listings. It’s shit out there but good luck. Fingers crossed

I wonder if all those liberals who told truckers to learn to code feel bad at all now.

Realize that this is very doomerist and all the people in my life are telling me that I will find another job, but this feels especially…different

I was cut because of a company bought out by AI-hungry PE. Ironically, I left my last job specifically to get away from that. And it still got me

Yeah I’m learning about all the hoops you have to jump through just to get the insultingly low amount of unemployment. It’s very evident that this is the point, to demean and degrade us and to discourage getting unemployment at all.

It’s the fucking worst place to be. Like how are we now part of the 4% of people unemployed in this country? It’s fucking mind boggling that the number isn’t significantly higher

“We replaced you with AI” = “We were firing you anyways and want to characterize it as our efficiency and not our failure for legal reasons”.
