Asking because I don’t want to keep writing "they think they’re helping but I don’t want their "help" and it’s actually counterproductive towards what I want" and various slight tweaks whenever I’m writing something.
Or speaking something. Shorthands are useful for oral stuff too!
Words and phrases: They make understanding and talking about stuff easy!
“Infantilising” can often apply. “Patronising”, “belittling”, and “condescending” can all be aspects of it.
Those are excellent choices, but I want something that’s more specific towards this specific meaning (if it exists).
At its core it just sounds like ableism - maybe more specifically “benevolent ableism”?
Maybe “Munchausen syndrome by proxy”?
Honestly I wouldn’t say those are very good.
No worries, hope you find what you’re looking for
The closest thing I can think of right now is “Unsolicited advice”.
But hell yes I need a proper word for this because god damn the ampunt of times my life has been made harder by “This is totally for your own good. You saying it doesn’t work just meams you’re lying/not trying” style help
I suppose we could invent that word/phrase.
“The Mace of Advice.”
The metaphor being the abled person swings their “mace” (unsolicided advice) at the disabled, which hurts them. The disabled in question is also unable to prevent being hit by it.
Also I just realized there’s a bit of alliteration in there!
Almost like “mansplaining” but for able-bodied people forcing help on differently-abled people. I hate all of these terms btw.
Savior complex
Maybe that is the phrase.
unwelcome help or unwelcome advice I think is sufficient, backhanded advice if you think it’s malicious in nature
just spitballin: bootstraps quackery, or maybe bootstraps webMD
