Gunna’ point out all the people who are now like “it’s stupid to go to a bar and drink if you’re immunocomprimised, even if you need to socialize” were literally making the exact opposite argument 2-3 years ago about how restrictions needed to be lifted, masking needs to be optional, etc. or else they’d go crazy themselves. Disabled people need to be on their best behaviour at all times or else they’re undeserving of concern, “healthy people” get to do whatever they want.

Wait wtf this is what I keep hearing about “Massachusetts Lesbian Bar”? I saw some things on Tumblr but, you know it’s Tumblr so I wasn’t going near that discourse with a 10 ft pole.

Like, fucking hell, I will admit i’ve been a little bad at masking when I have gone out (Though I don’t go out much and i’m normally not in a venue that could get me exposed, given my hatred of crowds), but return to masking cause it’s obvious how bad this year is and that’s after I got my vaccinations. If I showed up somewhere that said they demand masks I’d honestly be happier for it.

The bar in question had a mask mandate, then started doing “mask-optional” nights. Understandably, this pissed off their regular clientele, who were still taking COVID seriously. The bar is having financial issues and is attempting to make more money, but will now likely make less.

IMO, the story is being pushed in major media because it’s a good way to punch left by painting people taking reasonable precautions as “those loonie lefties”. “Don’t they realize that it’s impossible to run a business while asking patrons to mask? COVID is over!” One of the articles I read was dripping with venom for stuff like having therapists present at a meeting to discuss the situation.

I watched some of the video, but it was too long for me to get through. All this makes me incredibly sad. There is too little kindness and understanding and it leads to this. Hate, then discourse, then discourse on the discourse, etc etc. While a woman is stuck with a failing business she didn’t want and tons of debt, and a community is failed because of an ill-advised attempt to keep the business running. All anyone has done has embittered themselves to others on “the left” and zero solutions have been suggested to help the people effected. I think the article hasan read said they were going to make it a co-op, so that should be good at least.

“Woke 2.0 is needed because Woke 1.0 was crazy” discussion which will ultimately be really harmful to a bunch of important radical things that will get dragged in with it, like blm, abolish the police, etc.

this is literally hasans position. why does he suddenly get a pass?

Because he is what everyone wants, a light skinned guy in suit who won’t take away their privilege and treats, I don’t mean privilege in an abstract sense but quite real sense, privilege to look down and laugh at us, privilege to use us as punching bags of their abuse after a bad day, I will be honest, people like Hasan deserve to be put in between every disabled person they have spoke against them whatever will happen, whatever answers he will have to give, whatever questions they will have to face will be reaping what they sowed.

Feeding content into the anti-woke 1.0 machine will just fuel the anti-woke 1.0 machine. It’s beneficial to them.

I’m not saying don’t be critical, but be fucking smarter about it. If you get baited into being exactly what they’re attacking they just get more content to attack and it’s fucking easy for them.

imagine going into the disabled comm, and-as your first and only post on it in 6 years of having an account-telling disabled people to pretty pretty please be careful with how they criticize the guy advocating for eugenics because mr streamer man is oh so important bottom-speak

hasan is literally part of the “anti-woke 1.0 machine”, this is literally the position he takes

please reread the second sentence of my original comment, thanks

also famously capitulating to fascists and not “being what they are attacking” has always worked, right? famously this has never ever backfired in the history of the world. reactionaries would never use any and all criticism against people they dont like to try and support their position as long as its “smartly” written. this has definitely always been the case.

you sound like the average lib telling a trans woman how they have to get over dems transphobia except somehow even more pathetic because hasan is a twitch streamer

even if what you said was reasonable (which it isnt, reactionaries will distort criticism to fit their “anti woke 1.0 machine” no matter how you “smartly” do it) you immediately lose all credibility upon using the phrase “walk on eggshells” unironically lol, this is literally “anti woke 1.0 machine” rhetoric you are allegedly trying to prevent

walking into an oppressed community space that youve never interacted with and telling them how to form their criticism to appease reactionaries (and yes that is what you are doing) and expecting to be 1. taken seriously and 2. treated with upmost decorum is nonsense no matter if you are part of the wider group or not

im not really sure where i accused you of not belonging here? i guess you could interpret me saying “fuck off” as that but i wouldnt say thats me saying “you dont belong here” and more “stop bringing brazenly ableist nonsense to the disabled comm”. and the last sentence of my last comment was just the same vibe, not a 1:1 comparison. (also the phrase “walk on eggshells” has just increased that vibe lol)

you can say youre not defending hasan if you want but that doesnt change the fact you went out of your way to tell other disabled people they need to “be careful about calling him out” for being ableist

My example of disabled people being football keeps getting proved correct, we are football used by one side to score over other. We need each other more than ever and only we can save ourselves in situation of death camps, none of these “communists” are gonna save us, we’ll be the sacrifice, the mud soil, they use to make their utopia, we’ll be the child of Omelas if we don’t resist.

at our lgbt community we just make sure people have vax papers and if they dont / cant afford it we offer to pay it out, the doctor we use is a short walk away and has a deal with us. its not that much overhead and is the bare minimum i think shrug-outta-hecks

we also give out condoms and prep and have a lot of free masks laying around. we arent really a bar tho, it is interesting that a bar tried to be more of a community space than just a cruising space though
