OP, you’ve got a misspelling in your title. It’s “whines,” not “warns.”

Like with cookies, they will undoubtedly find the most unusable and malicious form of “no algorithm” allowed under the law.

It’s not a warning, it’s a threat that they plan to follow through on.

      Do you want the algorithm:

      🔳enabled

      🔳enable only necessary

      ☑️enable custom

-insert checklist so long you have to scroll to see all the options, and you have to untick them one by one to actually turn the algorithm off. And it pops up every time you go back to the website if you didn’t tick “enabled”

    Of course he would

He’s a cunt who profits from doing harm

I live in Australia, and the banning social media for kids thing was idiotic, but it was set in motion by the previous conservative government and was unfortunately popular with the voting public

This is the current, vastly better, government trying to make lemonade out of lemons by turning that shitty legislation into something actually helpful

They know kids are getting around the ban, so they’re working with it rather than trying to waste time and resources repealing shit legislation

Currently instagram users are overwhelmed with ads and posts from accounts they don’t even follow.

I swear Instagram started adding random accounts to my following list, from time to time I see posts from random meme accounts and I’m somehow following them, Even tho I only follow people I know IRL.

I’ve never seen that I’m following accounts I don’t know, but there’s a ton of the “Suggested for you” stuff.

The text of the draft legislation, last I read, says that:

An online service has a recommender feature if the service can (a) select material by reference to any information that the service has associated with an end-user’s account; and (b) display that material to the end-user while the end-user is using the service.

Side note: I really hate how Lemmy only lets me create new paragraphs and not new lines.

? When I do that it ends up like this:

An online service has a recommender feature if the service can (a) select material by reference to any information that the service has associated with an end-user’s account; and (b) display that material to the end-user while the end-user is using the service.

The head of Instagram says the average person who turns off their algorithm will have a much worse “user experience” and he does not think the platform is addictive.

Why you scared of an optional feature, meine freund? Mmmmm?
