Kakistocracy (/ˌkækɪˈstɒkrəsi/ KAK-ih-STOK-rə-see) is government by the worst, least qualified, or most unscrupulous people.

The problem with liberal democracy is that it does not select for the people who spend all their waking hours perfecting a craft or researching a field of study or cultivating an area of expertise.

It selects for people who have dedicated their lives to maximizing their name recognition, in conjunction with a certain collection of popular talking points. Liberal democracy exists on the reputation economy. And RFK Jr has spent his whole life building a certain kind of reputation. One that strongly resonates with a certain kind of like-minded yuppie failkid, which this country produces in abundance.

To add to the mess, we have largely privatized the reputation economy. It is a Pay2Win game. And the folks who can afford to play tend to be the type with more money than sense. The fact that this asshole is given any kind of platform at all is illustrative of the mentality of the producers and advertisers invested in influencing government policy.

Dana Bash and Jake Tapper suck ass. This clipped retort only exists because these phony corporate turds keep propping guys like RFK Jr up and treating what he has to say as worthy of a national broadcast.

Precisely the problem with democratic elections is that the greatest chances are given to those whose campaign is an investment, to enrich themselves, individuals or corporations.

The independent who answers to no one simply can’t raise the resources to give an honest fight.

Well… in theory the independents answer to a coalition of local activists and ideologues - an actual party structure - rather than just going out in a personal vanity project.

And that’s what gives them an edge over the empty suits and institutional drop-in.

But, in practice, that’s time consuming and expensive for the public at-large. Very difficult when people are overwhelmed by work and alienated from one another.

That’s not THE problem with liberal democracy. There are plenty of others. But it’s still the best system that humans have come up with.

But it’s still the best system

Verdict remains out on that one.

I see quite a few people living under liberal democracies who hate their governments. More even than folks living under theocracies and monarchies, nevermind primitive tribes and workers’ soviets. And Liberal Democracies also have an annoying habit of being incredibly war-like. So their neighbors don’t like them too much, either.

The fact that you are able to see and hear the complaints means more than you realize. The verdict is not “out.” It is a better system than anything that has existed before it, which has always been authoritarian. And it is far from perfect and there will of course be better systems in the future.

The issue is whenever someone suggests better ways of doing something those in power strangle the change in the crib before improving people’s lives. We don’t need to put life essentials behind a pay wall anymore but we do so Trump can rape little girls on private islands. We need major political and economic overhauls.

Yeah of course. Let’s just not burn it all down to start over. Powerful men raping kids is not new. We have gotten better at seeing it when it happens. Next we have to get better at holding them accountable.

When did the word overhaul mean burn down. Obviously an overhaul means some parts of the system would remain.
