Of course it’s for sexual assault. What terrifies me isn’t just how long they’ve gotten away with being known removeds, but how big of an influence they’ve had on the male population.
We are in a real fucked up zone at the moment with algorithms and walled garden internet spaces making the right-wing propaganda of the ruling class very easy for them. I really think we underestimate just how bad it is. I don’t think the media has been this controlled in the west since pre-internet days.
We have a population that just straight up believes whatever lies they’re told. I know it’s always been like that, but there is a striking incuriosity and smug ambivalence towards the truth that used to only be reserved for those who watched nothing but Fox News. Except now it’s not just memaw believing anti-vax propaganda, it’s everyone, young and old eating up the same algoslop and actually believing it. It used to be most people my age and younger used to be able to look at something like that and be like “Yeah that’s the kind of shit used to trick old people on Facebook.” but there isn’t any of that scrutiny anymore for most people. It’s almost like people have completely memory-holed basic reasoning skills.
I have to wonder if repeated Covid infections are going to become the new lead poisoning. I don’t know how to put it into words, but I feel like everyone is just less… knowledgeable? Worldly? More out of touch? Than they used to be.
yeah, but then again I’d find it incredibly tiring. to try to keep track of the validity of all the statements an average westerner vitnesses throughout the day’s algorithm, any of which could well by now be “fake news”. there’s much shit assaulting the senses all the time at worst, and only most of the time at best. maybe one could see the irrationality as a subconscious coping mechanism to the onslaught of media mostly of dubious credibility, possibly because of lethargy from repeat Covid? or maybe my tinfoil hat is blocking the bloodflow to my brain

There have always been people who believe what they were told uncritically. And there were always people who would take advantage of it.
I wonder though, with so many generations of grifters and grifteds is it possible that societies just run out of people who can say no to the grift either because they figured out its a grift or they’re just skeptical enough to refuse it on pure gut instinct? The population of believers increases so much that those people wind up in positions that used to be filled with people who would attempt to figure out an objective truth before passing along the idea/information/claim.
Yesterday there was a blogpost re-posted on hexbear from an IT consultant who’s analysis of the AI industry hype is that its do dangerous to careers/jobs for anybody who says anything critical of AI integration. This feels similar. So many people are saying “the emperor has the most amazing clothes” that it feels insane to say “but the guy is walking around naked.”
I still think reasoning skills and the truth serve important functions, but only insofar they are in service to the bubble.
Algorythms have turned the internet into a giant web of intersecting grifter and personality cults that actually do promote curiosity, but only ever in the direction of each other, never towards structural analysis, let alone one’s place in the class struggle.
Especially the right wing corners of the internet act as one big intergrift of billionaire-funded misdirections.
I remember reading that Barron (“Unplugged”) Trump is a big fan of theseremoveds. If I knew how to use prediction markets I’d bet on them getting released. DJT will try to get the uk to drop the investigation then failing that he’ll have DoJ cut them loose.
