    Did you have to pay for yourself and what were the overall costs? Those interested in participating in game tournaments generally lack the money or the prerequisites to allow for accomodations in other countries.

      It was an In The Groove (ITG, similar to a community-friendly DDR) tournament. Around 50-60 € for an entire 4 days. For me it was literally a <40€ roundtrip train ticket to the venue, when most of the participants flew themselves there

      Rhythm gaming is a stupidly expensive hobby outside of Japan, so I doubt people who are into the game would have financial difficulties making there… Heck the few folks from Sweden co-operate an arcade business there. However you are correct, a lot of ppl were probably gatekept from even getting into the hobby in the first place due to finances. In this case, ITG takes at least 300-400 € to get started (buying a home controller), or spend at least 20 € every week at the arcade if you even live close to one (which is usually not the case in Europe)
