OK now that this dumpster fire of a story is coming to an end can we finally just get the real FF7 with better graphics? That’s all we wanted man not kingdom hearts wearing the skin of FF7.

Just one game on one disc. The same story as the original. No time travel bs. No extra shit. Option between turn-based and action combat (Maybe something like Clair Obscur?) Just do a normal remake. It looks great and the combat is fun but literally everything else about this remake has been a garbage fire

It’s a remake of a game from 1997, being released in 3 separate games/installments. This is the 3rd and final installment/game, releasing in Spring of 2027.

Yes, it’s not turn based like in the original. But you characters still have ATB bars that fill, at which point you can perform abilities, cast spells, call forth summons, or use items by spending ATB. This can be done instantly with shortcuts, or you can slow down time in a tactical mode, while you choose your next action.

Also worth noting, it’s much longer than the 1997 game.

I played and beat the original on PS1. I bought FF7 Remake on Xbox, and it came with the OG FF7. After beating Remake, I went back to the OG. I did everything Remake got from the OG in like 2 hours. I think I put 30 hours into Remake? I mean, if you haven’t played the OG or you haven’t played it in a while, you might have forgotten how easy it is to get to Shinra and escape wtih Aerith and Red XIII. Remake added so much. Was it necessary? I dunno. I really didn’t like Remake and I haven’t bought Rebirth yet. I’m not planning on it, but I may eventually. But I don’t have a problem with how they’re doing it.

I recommend trying the demo for Rebirth. I enjoyed it much more than Remake. Combat is expanded/improved. One of Remake’s issues was a lot of the optional content/side quests weren’t very fun. Rebirth has a lot of optional content, and IMO most of it is fun.

It is because they started a naming convention («Remake: Episode 1») and then screwed it up along the line. Also the original project forecasted more than 3 chapters.

The gist is that it’s a trilogy (Remake, Rebirth, Revelation), and there are some spinoffs.

It was officially confirmed as a trilogy about 4 years ago, and unofficially known as a trilogy for a couple years before that. Revelation is the final installment.

Remake and Rebirth are awesome, and you should play them.

They also remade (or “remastered”, whatever) the 2007 PSP spinoff/prequel, Crisis Core, a few years ago for PS5. It’s okay, but not great. Worth playing if you’re really into the series, otherwise skip.

Then there’s a mobile game called Ever Crisis, which sucks like only mobile games can. If you really want to catch up on obscure side stories, just read the wiki. It’s way more fun.

I figured it out. The original game came in three parts based on the 3 disc in the original game. I remember because I had it. So they just did the same here. By time you got to start 3rd disc you could travel over the whole world.

Technically, Rebirth (part 2) ends at the same place in the story as disc 1 of the original. Disc 3 of the original was mostly the same as disc 2, since you could do a lot of side content early or late. They just needed another disc to fit all the FMV scenes.

So the general flow of the remake trilogy is:

Remake: Midgar. In the original, this was the first 5-8 hours for a typical player, and included roughly 1/3 of the whole game’s dialogue, so it’s not as crazy as it sounds at first, even though you can speed through Midgar in like two hours if you rush.

Rebirth: Open world up to the “big event” that ended disc 1.

Revelation: Everything after the “big event”, so discs 2 and 3. (Possibly also adapting some aspects of Advent Children and/or Dirge of Cerberus, but we’ll just have to wait and see.)

There are a couple things that were moved around. For example, we didn’t go to Rocket Town in Rebirth, while that was much earlier in the original. Cid appeared in Rebirth but was not a playable party member, so they’ve reorganized it a bit to focus on Cid’s whole story in Revelation.

Wow thank for the explanation. I only played half way through the Remake. Played the whole original game. Sad we don’t get to go to rocket city I enjoy that part.

We’ll definitely see Rocket Town in Revelation. I’m looking forward to seeing how they adapt Cid’s temper when we finally see him with Shera.

A faithful remake without all the timeline bullshit and complete character assassinations would be great.

Until then I’ll keep ignoring that this garbage exists.

Me too, but given some scenes in Rebirth, I expect we will still see him quite a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is involved in introducing/progressing unlocks in the new FITS system.
