I get why YouTube “breaks NewPipe,” but I wish they put equal energy into making people want to use their platform as they intended. Mandatory ads to watch what amount to ads (music videos, game/product reviews) is driving people away. They ask so much for Premium and they don’t let you block all the ads or the AI slop. If they let you block all the ads and the slop and the service was affordable, I’d probably pay it. I think a lot more people would. But Google is an advertising company, they really don’t want you to pay, which is why it doesn’t block everything. Because they can’t justify that to the shareholders.

I would never pay for youtube. The idea of youtube was awesome when it started, but that is not what it is now. It’s google’s youtube now, in fact, Ir’s google (and f4i3nds)'s internet now… It is a capitalist hell. They have an unethical monopoly (not technically, but effectively). They earn money from the creatibe works of others and pretend that they are a benevolent god by giving those creaters a small handout (under strict conditions).

I’d be fine with creaters running their own ads, for which they get all the money. I’d support that and it might even persuade me to buy such products. But it is google that gets the best part of the deal now and I very much disagree with that.

I used the time to find a peertube instance i like. It was not a smooth experience, but good enough that I found enough content to watch. So even if youtube would be working perfectly again I don’t think I want to use it anymore. It also made me question my media consumption as a whole.

It’s working for me? Maybe it’s specific videos that are failing? Are you able to provide any examples?
