Poll also found nine in 10 respondents would ban smoking in children’s play areas
Not sure how practical it is but I would want to ban smoking anywhere in public. Do whatever you want in your own home, but smoking next to people just because there’s no roof directly overhead is just being a dick. Surely everyone knows about 2nd hand smoke at this point.
It’s illegal under UK law to smoke in rental properties of which there are about 9 million.
I think that is only shared accommodation, if you rent a private property on your own, then it’s not illegal. Although I can’t see any landlords allowing it though due to the staining etc.
Yep. It’s lovely to walk behind someone in the local high street while they spew cigarette smoke or stinking vape clouds over their shoulders! Smokers should have air conditioned rooms or designated areas away from other if they want to carry out their anti-social behaviours.
Vapes I don’t mind as much, the smell is no where near as bad for me. My main issue with them though is knowing what the hell is in the “smoke”. The regulations don’t seem to have caught up
I can’t wait for this to be a universal law. Smoke what you will, but away from anybody else. If you can’t smoke without the smoke reaching any other being, then you simply don’t.
As a smoker who hasn’t been able to quit yet; I agree.
First they take away their social media, now fags. What else are they supposed to do in their play areas?
Drugs and heavy petting
I’m very surprised that it isn’t already banned in kids play areas and it definitely should be.
I think pubs should be allowed to decide for themselves about beer gardens though.
The problem is a race to the bottom happens. Smokers tend to drink more and are quite… militant in their opinions on where to go. Basically non smoking pubs would suffer, and so likely allow smoking, ruining it for everyone else.
It doesn’t help that those left smoking cigarettes, in the UK, tend to be the rudest, most inconsiderate of the original group. The average heroin addict is considerably more polite than the average cigarette smoker now.
