I did a rewatch a few years back. I’m old enough to have seen it on its original run as a teen. I found myself mostly annoyed by all the teens on the show and the awful writing and shouting things at the TV like “Listen to Giles! Listen to Giles! Listen to Joyce! Listen to Giles!” in between thirsting over Giles and Joyce and fantasizing about being their third.
To hell with Xander, what an insufferable jackass. I was not in the least surprised when I found it he was basically Whedon’s self-insert.

trying to decide if this is indicative of deep self-esteem issues or if he thinks xander actually comes off well
either way it makes the post-canon hookup with dawn extra fucking gross (and it really didn’t need any help there) since whedon was explicitly banned from being alone in a room with trachtenberg

Yeah there’s loads of “what if we forget Buffy is literally the chosen one” for sake of plot. They did well with seasons 5 and 6 despite that, tho.

A fun show despite Whedon’s best efforts, I just finished a full rewatch with my wife a few weeks ago and only spent slightly more than half of that time yelling at the tv
