I feel this way about a lot of the memes posted. I mean sure it’s a spectrum, but one side of that spectrum is just normal human behavior.

A fair bit of neurodivergent stuff is also neurotypical, just turned up to a degree that it begins interfering with daily living.

It’s social convention to say “ow” when you bump something, so I say “ow.” When I actually hurt myself (and I notice it) I don’t want to draw attention to myself. So I stay quiet. Really, they’re both masking.

I say “ow” if other people bump lightly into things but can’t remember where I got the giant scratch on my upper leg from

One is the surprise of being mildly hurt.

The other is all of your brain’s processing power being consumed by the pain of being really hurt.

And years of trauma from being hurt, then being told that “it shouldn’t hurt, real men don’t cry”.

I think that might be a difference between hypersensitivity and hyposensitivity.

The autism stereotype is hypersensitivity, where they feel everything very intensly.

But there’s also the opposite, hyposensitivity. Where I feel things less, can peak boiling pots of water with my hands, used to get a lot of bruises as a kid from bumping into things without noticing, and I need my music loud…

I think you might fall in the later with me

Same, cuts and bruises are only noticable when someone points those out or i get blood somewhere and then am surprised over where i got this one.

Though the weak sensor signaling extends to basically every single aspect of the bodies functioning. Hunger is barely just slightly annoyance, for few seconds. Tiredness barely exists. Same for any good emotions.
Only the most strongest sensory input is noticable.

I get quiet when actually hurt because I am assessing how bad I am actually hurt. So if everyone would just STFO a moment and let me do my thing before asking me if I’m alright, I would appreciate it.

When I broke my leg last summer:

“I think I just broke my leg… yeah I’m gonna need to lie down here for a minute”

For me, real pain tends to elicit a strong inhalation, a backward seething of air, the way some people react when watching someone else get hurt. Sometimes it takes a hot second for the pain to actually kick in, and if I’m alone I might swear when it hits.

But then there are times when it doesn’t hurt at all, just to later leave a bruise and the incident that caused it is forgotten. I often have bruises that I can’t explain, because I didn’t feel pain when they were caused and can’t recall all the dumb little bumps into corners I make regularly.

for the second one I once got a nasty cut while working on a lathe and it just missed a tendon or something, I look at it asses it then with the urgency of needing to pee got someone so cover for me(boss wanted one continuous cut with no stops) while I went to the bathroom, wash my finger then try to cover the missing triangle chunk(like a cliff face) about 1/8th of an inch by one inch long with a normal bandage then go back to work despite everyone catching on pretty fast

probly should have gotten stitches if it didn’t just remove the area but moral of the story don’t “punch” sharp things especially if they are spinning
