Plus - you have now mastered the art of drawing feathers

Con - you now have visceral hate of drawing feathers

    Anyway, great picture!

Dark, and extremely clever with the sun at the very center, casting father and son into shadow

Thank you! Most depictions of this story show the flight and fall. I thought it would be interesting to show the quiet moment before disaster. I’m happy with how it came out!

I can’t think of any image that inspired it, so I guess my own imagination. I read a book on Greek mythology a while back and it prompted me to draw my own take on some of these stories – see here and here.

Well, that’s sincerely amazing to me, for real this is moving.

The way it draws the eye from puzzling over the close perspective of the subject that crowds the frame, to the pair beneath, - “oh. They made that?”

Eye stays there for a moment…then naturally goes to the sunrise behind, and -

Slams into the contrast between the typical symbol of hope and renewal, vs what we suddenly know about what’s to come. And the whole tragedy unfolds.

            spoiler

And then, if you’re old, all the stories with the people in your own life that relate in their various ways come along for the ride 😅

It’s really delicious, exquisite, I’ve been returning to it all day🤌

[Edit - title did help, to be clear, just the right “clue” to set the stage / prime the experience]

[Edit edit - honestly I felt I ought to cut myself off at some point, but eh, fuck that. To continue - post-understanding and connecting the story, the way the wings loom - the way “human artifice” is presented as the actual primary subject (via the lacing), the way it appears higher than the sun (“rival” to human artifice and its accompanying hubris, not per se to humans), the expressions on the traditional “subjects”, their clear place, as individuals, both between and beneath the mega sized “true subjects”. Okay that’s most of it.]

[Edit edit edit - YOU SUNUVA their shadows form the head of the imagined bird?!?! No wonder it flows like that. I’m turning my phone off, this is outta control lmao]
