I grew up with and know folks now whose kids names are Irish last names. Reagan included. Seems to be and has been a trend, as of late the kids are being named the less common ones on this list.

Why Americans choose them is anyones guess, the folks I know either wanted to be unique or they used a parent or grandparents surname.
