Very cool+normal. It was 11C above what it should be today, with nature up to two months ahead of its normal patterns. This has been our warmest winter since the 1930s and driest since the 1980s at least.

:yea: It’s the most common topic in local small-talk. People remember how horrific the 2020 fire season was and are anticipating hell this summer.
Legit I think climate change is an apocalyptic thing but comparing 2 arbitrary years is meaningless.
To discuss climate you need to examine aggregate data, there’s no need to do dodgy stuff, the trend data is extremely alarming.
I get that. This year is just such a wild outlier that the gravity of it only hits me when I compare it to any arbitrary year they have data for going back to 2018, then the driest in 30 years. For climatology I start with 10 year trends but there isn’t 10 years of data on that website or a clean way to overlay all of them.
Keep an eye on Colorado River water rights, its gonna get ugly.

The Rockies trap and recirculate everything from the west coast so it’s like we’re on fire even when it’s only the megafires in BC.
Question from someone that does not live in a wildfire prone area: You hope for a dry spring so that there won’t be much plant growth that can catch fire in summer or what is the logic behind it?

Recently read an article talking about how the upper Midwest was supposed to have a pretty intense winter with la Nina coming through. A true winter like the ones we used to get! Aaaand… aside from some cold snaps here and there, it just …hasn’t materialized. Hell I only had to shovel like… four times this winter. That would’ve been fucking unheard of when I was a kid.
