I mean I agree that a burning Israel flag emoji would give fascists rhetorical ammunition (edit: very poor choice of words but I believe in posting your Ls) but agreeing with the antisemitism smear is a step too far. If Norm Finkelstein and other anti-Zionist Jewish people see fit to call Zionism a Jewish supremacist project then I’m not inclined to agree that it’s antisemitic to say so.

Also deflecting criticism by yelling at people to go outside strikes me as disingenuous, un-self aware, and fragile. Maybe this site is mostly for shitposting but I don’t see what’s wrong with using it as a sounding board to figure out how you feel about real life issues, some of the time.

Yeah I don’t get why we should care about fascist ammunition ever. They make shit up over nothing, we shouldn’t have to self censor over what they could possibly take and run with. Then that means we’re preemptively neutering ourselves before anything happens.

Agree, something, something the Jean Paul Satre quote about not taking the antisemite seriously we also are one of the few sites that documents the genocide in its entirety, any lawman coming through wanting to bump us off would have done so already and done real harm to people being informed about the genocide.

Apparently we’ve also already been reported to federal agencies and the site isn’t gone yet, so I don’t see why a religious symbol burning would change anything when we regularly distribute images of the zionist flag burning.

Saving most of my thoughts for the inevitable struggle session but shouldn’t we be smart enough to recognize when we’re burning the zionist flag vs. burning the star of David? If one’s in a thread about isntreals crimes and another is a random post unrelated to isntreal, I think we can tell which is antisemitic.

It’s just liberal zionists deflecting, I truly dont believe they think burning an ethnostate’s flag is on par with the antisemitic hate crime of burning the star of David to get at Jewish people

They’re just butthurt and trying to find a “leftist” defense of their butthurt instead of doing self reflection

True enough and very good point, thank you for keeping it real. Definitely not trying to die on that hill, actually now that you mention it I feel like that was an ass take on my part. I’ve thought about it a little more and I think the most reasonable argument is that depending on how the laws go, having an emoji like that could end up getting the site shut down. But that’s very hypothetical and meanwhile, yeah they’re starving hundreds of thousand of children for crying out loud. Country full of psycho killers doesn’t deserve that kind of consideration.

But actually I don’t remember this ever being made a policy in the first place. If I recall correctly, WhyEsEff said she personally wasn’t comfortable making the emoji but if someone else wanted to, they’re free to do so. Then everyone just left it at that. Anyway, I’m for it, and I might fire up GIMP myself.

Yeah there are like, 2 valid-ish reasons for us not to have the Israeli flag burning as an emoji. Neither were actually defended in that horrible thread. It’s especially white to browbeat the people who are asking for the emoji as all being antisemites when they were all active users of the site, many are Arab, and none said anything even slightly antisemitic. Also “Jewish exceptionalism” is too far now? Ffs.

Z poster getting a seemingly permanent site-wide ban (no more news megathread for you bucko!) for it was also uncalled for just for pointing out the holes in other users arguments.

History of sustained hostility and wrecker behavior. PLEASE TOUCH GRASS AND ORGANIZE

White leftists going “please touch grass and organize!!!” as a escape hatch to any criticism they receive. The first part seems like grounds so I won’t comment on that.

It is ridiculous. I can kinda understand where the pearl clutching is coming from because in my own conversations with people in my country, which has a pretty low Jewish population, there’s been a lot of ignorance about the Holocaust and antisemitism more broadly, so I can understand why there’s an aversion to any narrative or term that can be weaponized by antisemites (those sorts of things fester among those who are ignorant about history) but it’s perhaps the most appropriate website in the web to have these conversations safely.
