    Just burn the world and be done with it.

    “I think currently the regulation allows for developers to build new properties with garages that are frankly just too narrow,” Premier Peter Malinauskas told ABC Radio Adelaide.

    “You can’t even fit a Hilux or a four-wheel drive in them and that just doesn’t make sense given that’s where such a significant proportion of the new sale car market in Australia comes from.”

    Just take the Japanese approach, require proof that your garage is big enough before selling you the car.

    When I built my house, I made the garage 8000x6000 even though the architect, builders and council all said I should do 5000x5500 or something absurdly small.

    That extra metre of width meant that I had shelving down both walls of the garage, and I didn’t need anywhere as much storage inside the house (space which costs more to build, heat and cool).

    My neighbourhood is full of houses with little garages. Every single one of them is filled with shit and there is a car or two on the street. The backstreets are all half-duplex because of it.

    Another BIG difference is that I have a 15A power socket next to my car. You simply cannot charge an EV on the street.

    I live in an area with a lot of new developments and this is definitely a planning problem that needs to be looked at. Many roads constantly have rows of cars parked along the side because none of the owners use their garage (either because their oversized car doesn’t fit or because the development is too tight to get in and out of comfortably).

      Property Council SA is mentioned later in the article. And in this case, they are right, as this is another subsidy for people with gigantic vehicles that must be borne by all of the people that have smaller cars (or no cars at all).
