My previous account was @dumblederp@aussie.zone I left it because Rowling has turned out to be a pretty shitty person and I don't want the association.

Mostly I'm just here for idle friendly conversation over shared interests.

I can get caught up in my own stubbornness on some topics.

  • I expect we'll probably see emulation instead.

  • I still haven't gotten around to playing GTA5 or RDR2, and I own them on PC.

  • Semaglutide has been prescribed to diabetics for 20+ years now. Asking for the horror stories is probably unreasonable fear mongering. So many topics have horror stories, which if followed directly, would indicate staying away from the thing. Unless it's an unusually high percentage of people experiencing negative effects it's mostly medical denialism, eg anti Vaxxers, to focus on the slim chance of problems. I've had two surgeries in the last two years, one of the side effects was death, people do die during surgery, I'm fine. I'm still recovering but I'm getting there.

  • Don't forget "We'll fix the housing crisis" but owns six+ houses.

  • While I agree, cops will often only deal with one person at a time.

  • In Australia the right (gov + media) are blaming immigrants for our problems. If they get in power, they're gonna turbo charge immigration. They're blaming our Labor government for the housing crisis while many of the Right Wing pollies have a massive housing investment portfolio.

  • My friend asked how often I got delivery. "More thna 5, less than 10." I answered. He was surprised to find out that was my total, ever. Probably just over ten these days, less than 15 for sure.

I grew up poor, am still poor, but my answer to food insecurity is meal prep and bulk buying.

  • "The only place to spit in a rich man's house is in his face" - Diogenes

  • Early to bed. I try to stay up until at least 9pm so I don't wake up at 3am.

  • It's not the high, it's the strength of the addiction. Nicotine is hard to kick. This has been known about since the English landed at what's become Virginia in the USA. Tobacco has a long history of being used as an addictive trade good. There's a great book by Iain Gately - La Diva Nicotina: The Story of How Tobacco Seduced the World. Which covers the history of tobacco.

That said its been easier than ever to get chop chop or even produced smoke than ever before. Same for the disposable vapes, look for a bin covered in security seal stickers and you won't have to go far to find the shop.

  • YSK if you talk to a surgeon, they'll recommend surgery. Whoever you talk to has been trained that their method of treatment is the preferred one. They're invested in that technique so will push what they've been taught.

  • A lot of stronger pain meds cause constipation so the laxative can be for that side effect. Avoiding bearing down aka poo pushing can be recommended to reduce stress on the surgery site. I had two hernia operations to learn this. I'm a cis male but one of my testes is giving me a bit of grief so I expect I'll need to evict it at some point.

  • On this note, I lost contact with a huge number of friends when I deleted my facebook ~15 years ago. Similar for livejournal. I handed out my email address and phone number before I walked away, but people have not used those to contact me at all.

I think people don't want to put any effort into socialisation. Getting a "feed" is so easy, it feels like you're connecting with people. You see the comments and likes. But everyone is lonely because they're not actively interacting, just passively consuming.

  • It's always been time to scrap private health cover. Disgusting that it was ever introduced.

  • They're great devices. I'm for any legislation that allows the legal public use of them. Ridiculous that I can be trusted with a 1000+ cc motorbike but not a 3kw e-moto.

  • $7k AUD was for a ~42kw FoxESS battery with a 10kw Inverter. I need another $2-3k of work done on the house power supply first. I'm having a lot of trouble finding a sparky to do the mains upgrade that I need.

  • There might be. Any of that stuff in Australia is very much "pay a licensed professional" to do the work, so it costs a fortune and companies defend their share in the market rather than embrace new tech.

  • Got off residential gas in Australia a few years ago. Bills are $600/yr for power, were up to $1500 one year for power+gas. At $600/yr a residential battery investment of $7k isn't worth it for my household. It won't run the AC because I've got a multi-split system for the bedrooms. Had I known I'd've gotten individual units for the bedrooms so I could get on on the battery backup system but I'm not cashed up enough to go pulling out a fairly new multi-AC to replace it with a bunch of individuals for the bedrooms so that I can get AC when the summer heat takes out the power.

    e: love the downvote.
