But they’re questioned now more than ever. There are more atheists and agnostics in the world than ever before.

Why such a huge percentage of the USA seems to lack any form of empathy. It’s like half the population is missing crucial brain functions.

Why we can’t be friends here. Why not give the benefit of the doubt. That perhaps we are all far more alike than different in this place.

Agreed. You are really referring to the fact that so many now belong to some kind of hive. They no longer think for themselves. And since being a member of a specific hive gives their life meaning, they defend it against anything or anyone that disagrees with it. I’d bet that I would have points of agreement with 99% of all posters and commenters if everyone just thought for themselves

War … any war … and why countries would rather invest millions, billions and trillions on war machines and weapons that could literally kill us all, rather than try to figure out more peaceful solutions.

Or how they have trillions to spend on war, but that money can’t be found when people are starving and living in the streets.

War is the cost of challenging the status quo intentionally. It turns out a lot of people in power are willing to pay that cost.

Basic self-consistency, particularly in Anglo countries. The culture seems to teach that it would be better to die than to recognize one’s own irrationality, correct it, and move on.
