uuh. i know this is a joke but brazilian evangelicals seem to have borrowed more than a page from leninism for their organizing efforts. plus their massive amounts of money means they look unstoppable.

Catholics did it as well, with the Liberation Theology. Then the CIA crushed them.

Brazil really can’t catch a break.

i think brazil has almost as many real communists as it has real fascists. honestly, the north american fingers on the scale are what makes this situation so bad. feels both hopeful and desperate at the same time.

too bad they never did a real survey about this.

I don’t think communist would be very open about their numbers considering how many fascists there are in Brazil.

But yeah, I don’t think I gave our comrades here enough credit.

ha, you responded before my ninja edit.

so far, the ones really afraid to be open here are the fascists. election polls keep putting bolsonaro behind where he should be in popularity and the leading hypotesis is that part of his electorate know it’s reprehensible so they hide it.

seeing the huge anti-bolsonaro movement after the 1st round of the elections makes me hopeful for the upcoming mess that will ensue. they are really good at being paper tigers, if only brazilians noticed this very important detail before it’s too late.

there’s already self-proclaimed communists out there prosletyzing about how private property is ontologically evil and satanic, and reframing the seizure of power as corruption like Christian sin and temptation. i’m sure jacobin would like me to do that, it’s not like they have any interest in politics outside of recognizability of red branding
