DC, bad movies (on the whole), pretty good TV. TBH I think comics align better with TV than movies, MCU was good for a while, but IMO has had its day.

Pretty good story and acting. They’ve nicely painted themselves into a corner with Hal Jordan being shot dead.

Let’s see if they blow it with a dream sequence, alien deus ex-machina, or multiverse bullshit.

They have the ability to keep Hal coming back as a ring hologram for a while, mentoring Jon Stewart once he becomes an actual Green Lantern.

Alternatively, they could have the dead Hal Jordan end up as another Manhunter?

Well after e8 it seems the hologram is out, but Sinestro implies he can resurrect actual Hal with John and the new lantern.

I hope that happens in S2, Kyle Chandler is great so far. He’s determined, he cares, and yet he’s often aloof, even callous (leaving John to burn to death). I think the show would really struggle without him in it.

I’m by no means a massive DC fan. I really don’t read the comics and have a basic understanding of character lore. I’m primarily a Marvel comics fan.

But man I’ve really been enjoying Lanterns. I generally do enjoy DC shows and animated series. they REALLY excel in that format. Even Marvel tv shows are generally better than the movies. Comics just work better when in an extended series format.

I do like this show, I’m just surprised that no one in these comments is talking about the last two episodes being really slow. Presumably we’re heading towards the finale, but gods damn did all of the tension and momentum die off after episode 5.

Yeah. Feels like one of those shows. Where they filmed half a season and thought that nobodys gonna watch this and mothball it, only to revive it later, but many actors have moved on.

First season of True Detective felt similarily disjointed.

So why is it good: a slow moving complex plot and they rarely use Green Lantern powers. It’s like they hired a good writer and told him to loosely connect the plot to the Green Lantern character, which they give vulnerability to, not make him omnipotent like the comics, which were boring.

I don’t want to give away too much, but I want to compliment it at the same time. Best I can say is that parts of the lore this show has done will be brought into the comics. John’s backstory for sure. Seeing Hal was always Hal as a kid was just incredible but none of the great writing lands without the acting.

Ngl, I wasn’t feeling the True Detective vibe in the first episode, but wanted to give it a chance. Now I’m watching episodes and the podcast to hear the creators talk about each episode. Throw in a YouTube show for fan theories. It’s been fun. Hoping the last episode keeps it going, and I can’t wait to see what things they don’t wrap up here for future seasons/movies.
