Reddit used to be techno-libertarian way back in the day with Ron Paul 2012 spam everywhere. Stuff like /r/jailbait was also a reflection of that techno-libertarianism. It’s that plus the militant atheism plus a general disdain for Bush era evangelical neoconservatism that led to the (undeserved) reputation that persists to this day.
