These last few months almost everything has had the same smell on it. Whether it’s letters through the post, items bought in the supermarket, anything at all. It’s a very distinctive perfume smell. Doesn’t matter where it was bought or who delivered it, everything smells like this now.

Have you noticed any loss of taste or smell otherwise? Or is it just the presence of a new smell?

Because my first instinct is to think this is an olfactory hallucination, possibly a COVID side effect.

No, I have no loss of taste or smell. I’d love to lose my sense of smell. If it was a hallucination, wouldn’t I smell it on everything? I only smell it on new things.

No, I only use unfragranced things. I did wonder if it might be something in my mind, but then surely I’d smell it on everything? I am only smelling it on new things, whether bought or delivered. I buy something from the supermarket, and then realise it has this scent. I get a letter delivered, it has this scent. But nothing I already have, and no people smell like this.

I think a majority of the perfumes people use have this very strong sort of note that I really dislike. As for other things with this smell, maybe, but I will have to investigate further.
