Sorry for the clickbait title. Have a blurry picture of a cat as an apology.
But as someone who does NSFW art for a living, talking to a client who reads and writes at the level of a 12 year old (and shows the same level of ignorance about the world outside their country) makes me really uncomfortable. Technically they’re a legal adult, but I feel like I’m talking to a child.
I like to be friendly and pleasant with clients, but when the conversation feels like I’m explaining very basic concepts like how weather or seasons work in other countries, or how an 8 hour drive isn’t shorter because we use kilometers instead of miles, it just feels wrong when paired with the adult artwork I’m also drawing for them.
Like, legally it’s fine, but it does make me wonder if it is ok to draw NSFW artwork for someone who doesn’t really feel like an adult intellectually.
Also #notallamericans, but I’m sure Americans on here know full well what I’m talking about, and have to deal with it a lot more frequently than I do.
EDIT: This is less supposed to be “Americans dumb” and more like “Some Americans seem to have the knowledge base of a child and that makes it hard to work with them in an adult context.” I’m not just trying to start an America bashing thread here, I’m more venting about a very specific problem where I have to create adult art for adults who have the writing style and comprehension levels of children.

Um, let’s set aside the 8 hour drive part for the moment. Let’s just say… I dunno, 800km? It’s like 500 miles.
800 is bigger. Naturally, bigger should take longer, not shorter?
Or is the logic that the speed limit in km/h is higher so you can go 500 miles faster?
I’m so confused.
I think the logic was that kilometers are smaller than miles, therefore a trip that takes 8 hours in kilometers will be quicker in miles? It could also have been something to do with the speed limits as well, maybe they thought that if the speed limit is 110, that’s 110 miles and therefore they can go much faster and get there quicker. Thankfully I was able to convince them that it was a terrible idea to drive for several days through the desert in a rental car with no water or emergency petrol or phone. They were from Texas, and so they were used to “long drives” which I think might’ve been a part of their confusion?
Ah, then the biggest disconnect was less about whatever was going on with miles vs. kilometers but that they expected to see something like this every 50km or so:
Driving throught NT and meeting the geological equivalent of hell: “hmm, should’ve packed some water.”
Every single year, without fail, some dumb ass yank gets pulled over by the RCMP for doing like 200+ km/ph down a highway, because they don’t understand the difference between kilometres and miles.
i’m ngl if i got caught speeding i’d probably play the dumb tourist too. thank god for radar detectors.
The car i learned to drive in had a button to switch gages from imperial to metric. Called it the warp speed button because it made the speedometer jump up. Was a real treat for my nerdy ass because i could ponder math while driving!
i am the king of the highway
