Reddit seems to have me blacklisted for so many of the popular subreddits, so I know the question won’t get posted.

Sadly I already know the response; they’d rather infinite genocides on the global South (keywords here ‘global South’) than let Trump get away with the Epstein files. I’ve seen libs openly admit they don’t see the point in sharing support away from Ukraine to countries in Africa, and admit that because this global South country or that isn’t a democracy that they don’t really care what happens to people there.

I also know that frankly they didn’t come to that conclusion on their own; the media and politicians are to blame for constantly justifying crimes over and over again against non-democratic countries for why libs think like this. They turn on the news, they listen to politicians, and it’s always the same; constant justification for crimes against the people of non-democratic countries.

“So let Russia and China run the world while pdf files get away? I’ll pass.”

That’s the response you’ll get. And maybe an accusation of you being a trump supporter.

Most American libs think US wars are a good thing, and think that the US just “doesn’t know” about any of the genocides it supports and/or has a “they’ll happen either way, so no use trying to stop them.” attitude towards them.

So their response would be neither funny nor get them to think about their own position, it would just be disheartening and frustrating to read.

nor get them to think about their own position

You know despite repeated frustrations with them I keep hoping they’ll have an epiphany moment, and honestly it’s pointless; these people have as much a cultish way of thinking as MAGA (hence why they’re blue MAGA)

This has been my exact experience. I’ve completely given up with them, it’s pointless. Best case scenario we just argue about some dumb bullshit. Really it just comes down to fundamentally different ways of viewing the world. There is no common ground. Believe me, I have tried hard to discuss with them in good faith and they are almost always just smug, dismissive, and condescending. As you correctly point out they are no different from MAGA: Thinking everything that goes against what they think is somehow a Russian disinformation campaign is deeply conspiratorial and no different from the illuminati Alex Jones weirdos.

Remember, the “news” that they pay attention to keeps them constantly in the present. To them history and geopolitics might as well not exist and isn’t relevant to what’s happening today. World events are just a series of people walking into rooms and saying/doing things based on their ideas and beliefs.

Peep this thread, you might find it soothing.

Stopping war and genocide is the obvious answer of course but in all honestly I think the question is a little silly since it’s a choice that would never actually exist. It’s like asking “Would you save every orphaned kitten in the world even if it meant you had to eat a moldy burger for breakfast every morning for the rest of your life?” It’s a thought experiment that has no bearing in reality.

So, anyways, hear me out: What if you could both punish the people in the Epstein files AND end all American wars/imperialism? AND you get to live in a world where workers own the means of production and where we at least have a chance to stop global warming? I can think of a realistic scenario where all of the above is achieved.

I feel like the harder question for liberals would be if they could only prosecute the content of the Epstein files if the US had to completely dismantle its military and try all officers as war criminals.
