  • That was a Tholian, wasn't it? Maybe I'm forgetting another scene.

  • I have to admit, I forgot about the Zigbee part when I replied.

The S31 Lite, which uses Zigbee, is supported by Tasmota. However they have a max current draw of 5 amps and don't do power monitoring like the regular Wifi S31. I haven't used the S31 Lite, so I can't speak to how the pairing works or other details.

  • I have a bunch of S31 plugs from Sonoff, flashed with Tasmota.

In Tasmota, you can set it to default to on and ignore the button. In fact I'm not sure if I can even turn it off via the HA interface without changing an option in Tasmota.

I have this set for several plugs - fridge, freezer, pellet stove, sump pump, etc. No issues with any of them, and some are a few years old. I think I even have the switch on the washer's plug disabled, too.

  • With his money, he could eliminate poverty right now. Why wait?

  • I'm sure it has been done, but those guys in front have a serious "37 pieces of flair" thing going on.

  • What region are you in?

Others have posted the source image below. But in this case it's Trump on the bridge of the Enterprise D, looking at the camera, while Crusher and others check on Picard, who is lying on the floor. I'm pretty sure the source scene is from The Inner Light.

  • I feel like Wesley is more like Beaker. Data is more like Bunsen, and Geordi is Fozzy.

  • We have one now, actually the successor to the cat I mentioned above, who likes to relax on my arm. Right now he's catloafing on one of my legs, not sure what's up with that, but his usual position is to lay across my left arm.

We have another that cuddles with me at night. Occasionally I'll wake up, and he'll realize I'm awake and demand cuddles. He's pretty good about not waking me up, usually.

  • Translation - they were not expecting this announcement. Soon, Trump will order them to conduct test explosions just because.

Trump is going to build a modern Vasa at some point. And all his supporters will claim the ship is perfect even as it sinks.

  • I had to banish my first cat from the bedroom. He'd start chewing wires to get me to react - which worked, because I didn't want him to be electrocuted - to get him breakfast.

I loved that cat, and I hated to do it, but I can't have him chewing wires.

Later in his life he was allowed back into the bedroom. He'd come into the bedroom while we were prepping for bed, then curl up under the blankets with me for a while, then leave for the rest of the night.

  • I feel like Picard could be Statler or Waldorf...

  • Good thing he survived the crash on Veridian III.

  • The cat would be on top of it if it was a crt. That's where mine was pretty frequently.

Things did not go well the day I got my first LCD. The cat tried to hop up top to check it out, and he fell down behind it. I saw him looking to jump up there, but I wasn't able to react in time to stop him. Fortunately he wasn't hurt.

  • That's Sesame Street, not the Muppets.

  • As a new bike mechanic (since June), albeit in the US, this is really interesting, especially the part about it being seasonal.

I love doing it. But there's just not enough work to have me full time or even half time. They have me coming in one day a week, and I'm pretty sure they'll keep doing that even if the work isn't there, but I think they (and me) were hoping the work would support more hours for me. They did tell me that they didn't want to lose me.

It's what I call a "high end" shop - we have less expensive bikes, but we also regularly sell the high end models that go for 5 figures. So, they want people they can trust to handle bikes like that without a problem. I will admit being nervous while test riding a $12k road bike I'd just assembled... "Don't wreck. Don't wreck." I was also asked to clean a set of $8k Mielenstein Lightweight wheels (mostly famous as the wheels you can win on Zwift on the Alpe d'Zwift). I had to ride someone's high end tri-bike to test the shifting, which was the first time I'd ridden one, and that was a stressful experience, too.

I'm working on a second job to cover when the mechanic work is slow. I do hope it picks up.

  • I gave up pretty quickly on trying to name things. Early on I was having a lot of issues with zigbee, and I frequently had to reconnect things, and renaming them into my scheme got to be another step I just didn't want to bother with. It felt like a waste of time.

A better use of time was fixing the zigbee issues (wifi interference - fixed that, and now the network is solid). But now I don't really ever need to worry about the device names, so, eh.

  • The brake in my wife's ICE car takes that long to disengage after I take my foot off the pedal at red lights. Incredibly distracting for me, as someone who is apparently very "in tune" with the car I'm driving. I didn't notice it during the test drive, but we didn't stop at many red lights that day. When I first noticed it, it caused a brief moment of panic - "What's wrong with the car?!" I'm kind of used to it now, but it still takes me out of any good mood I was in about driving that car. When I take my foot off the pedal, I expect the brakes to release at that moment, not a bit later.

And this isn't the brake hold feature that lets you remove your foot from the brake pedal. I rarely use that. It's just a lag between taking my foot off the pedal, and the brakes releasing. Most people never notice it, I'm sure, but it bugs me.

In general that car feels like there's a computer between you and the road. Everything is so muted, then it does things like the brake lag to remind you that it's in control and you're just making suggestions.

  • I use a helper for some entities. For example, the temperature sensors that come in via rtl_433 that rename every time I put new batteries in, or my phone or my wife's phone. That way I only have to change the helper, in one place, versus having to change it in countless scripts, scenes, buttons, etc.

  • I just locked mine in a room with the litter box with the non-absorbing crystals for a few hours.
