  • Put that issue in the parking lot...

  • But I like Rush's "Vital Signs".

"Everybody got to elevate from the norm."

  • This is a religious thing in general, in my experience. Mostly older people, but not guaranteed, and not necessarily conservatives, either. Just people very deep into religion.

  • Edit: This has been covered elsewhere as well.

  • Get a dog, the walks become mandatory.

Then there are days when the dog has to sniff every third blade of grass...inevitably, this happens when you're short on time and trying to do a quick walk...

And then there's rain, snow, extreme cold, extreme heat....yeah walking a dog has it all!

  • Quantum Leap.

I liked both the original and the remake a few years ago. Would have liked to see more of the remake. :(

  • Dim the lights that are already on, and ignore the ones that are off?

I'm just pointing out here that you and I have different expectations; how could the software know what you intended?

  • But you still use it with all of these objections?

  • What would you expect it to do? I would think you're telling it to set all lights to whatever level...

  • Don't mess with this, people. Before the pandemic, I had two monitors propped up on a box, but then when we started working from home, I had a laptop on my desk and a monitor above it.

Started having serious neck pain. Eventually I had to get steroid injections to heal it.

Rant time: there was no discussion with the doctor about the cause of this, I had to figure it out myself. Repair instead of prevention.

  • Oh, hey I'm already a member. And I posted a question a few months ago.

My steel trap memory strikes again.

  • Was that the vast migration of Star Wars fans?

No, that was the Star Wars Trek.

  • The EMs are still pretty inexpensive, fortunately. There's something about the mechanics that I love - like the line from Rush's "Red Barchetta", where he describes the car's engine as "mechanical music".

I love solid state games too, but EMs are interesting.

  • Is there an arcade games or pinball community?

I was thinking when I wrote that that I could do video of it playing with my new video camera. It wouldn't be the top down view we usually see for pinball, but I'm sure I could come up with something.

  • Duotron!

It's not really a highly regarded game, but my brother's first game was a Magnatron (same game, just 4 players instead of 2), and this came up as a restoration project, so I've been working on it. I swear the engineers were making music with the reset sequence. I'm sure it's all necessary, but there's a catchy element to the sounds it makes, too. It's my first restoration project, so probably good to start on a game that isn't super valuable.

I've got it in pretty good shape, sort of. The playfield is pretty worn, but it's clean and waxed. It plays pretty well, I need to clean the contacts on the bonus wheel and just play a bunch of games to make sure the score reels are working. Definitely one of those things where the more I play, the better it works. I'm planning to take it to a show in May. I need a few random parts like locks for the cabinet doors, but it's basically ready to go.

I also have my brother's Loop the Loop sitting there, and it plays fine, but it's covered with Duotron parts and schematics. I also have a RollerGames and a Bobby Orr Power Play in the house.

  • I remember getting free software this way. I don't remember what game it was, but I do remember it took like 8 months. They called me one day to tell me that the company they had paid to fulfill the orders had gone out of business, but they were working to get another one, and I would get the game at some point. (I might have sent a letter - this was the early 1990s - asking about the status).

It might have been Marble Madness for the IBM PC. I'm not sure.

  • Update - I left the door open for several hours yesterday, then closed it in the evening and put food inside. This morning, the food was still there and the litter box was untouched, so it's a safe bet she left. I'll keep an eye out to see if she seems to be looking for a way to get back inside.

  • I used to live on the 15th floor of a high rise building. One day I had the windows open and my cat saw something outside that he tried to attack. There was nothing outside to catch him if the screen had given way: it was a drop straight to the ground. Fortunately the screen held in place, but it was scary.

I never opened the window that far again.

  • The opponents say that every time. "No one ever uses them."

I can't speak to those specifically, but I see bike lanes in use all the time. Every time I'm in DC, cyclists in the bike lane, no matter the weather. Every time I ride a path that used to be a railroad, there are dozens of people also using it.

I'm in an abandoned rails group on Facebook, and some of them are very angry about abandoned railroad lines being converted to bike paths. The line will have been abandoned for decades and they still whine. "They should run trains on that!" To abandon a rail line, the company has to demonstrate that there's not enough business in the line to make it viable. They can't just toss it on a whim. Occasionally I've asked how much money they personally will contribute to reactivating the line, to which they inevitably say - apparently in earnest - the government should pay for it. Did I mention these guys are almost always right wingers?
