When you watch content you consume culture.
If it's true that you are what you eat, then it's true that you are who you're cultured by.
You might think you're getting out ahead on this deal, but I know you're being affected in small, subtle ways by that content. It's shaping you and nudging you a certain direction. You can deny this but selection bias exists and is a potent drug. Multiplied over millions of people, this has a pretty big capacity to drive narrative.
So the question is: who are you after you consume the programming. And yeah: that we refer to a TV show as a "program" is an irony that should not be overlooked.
If you're more aligned with creators of the programs, is it a boycott? Is it your money or your ideals that is the currency?

If you're upset you saw your face in a visual in a concert, but not in a situation to deny you rights, freedoms, or to catalog you into a demographic for a custom price increase or deny you employment, or living spaces, you're upset about the wrong edge of a two edged sword, because all tech is that.

the Korean government is taking this seriously
multiple billions of investment and lots of jobs were/are on the line.
talk is in the wind to relocate this investment (and hence the jobs) either to Mexico or Canada

While I'm happy to acknowledge that these are, in fact, troubling times, the notion that we should not have and adhere to standards is nonsense and wholly divorced from other countries have or do not have similar ones.

Why have any arbitrary set of standards AT ALL if we can just toss them out because some other asshole demographic decides they want to shit on the world?
