  • Interesting there possibly being a correlation between euthanasia and legal sex work. But it makes sense, as it is both about supporting people to make their own choice. I've always found the people who want to ban things that are dangerous a bit condescending, as if people aren't able to bare the consequences of their choices. But is true that if people have no good options, they will start considering bad options. But by making something illegal, they are not getting better options. Also I don't think making it illegal will stop the people who are willing to force someone into prostitution. Signing some law to prevent unwanted behaviour seems like a easy choice from a political pov. Real problems need real solutions.

  • I was so afraid with Trump blowing up the eu-US relationship the eu would suddenly become soft on China but thank God they are showing some backbone in this.

  • I've been saying for years governments need to switch from fighting drugs to taxing drugs. If you authorise growers with permits and sell under set conditions you can earn what criminals earn and also save loads of money on police. You'd probably still need law enforcement for the really hardcore stuff since it won't prevent regular addicts turning into junkies, but at least you have control over gateway drugs like weed and mdma in a similar way as you have control over alcohol and nicotine. The current system is broken and expensive. I am sober 8 years, I am not saving this because I think drugs are a good thing and am also not saying this so I can use drugs with less hassle.

  • I think a flat fee is the only way to go since these sellers tend to lie on the value of the content anyway. If you put a % of the value as a fee, everything package will have like a €0,07 value all of sudden. We need to go back to having physical stores who make a profit on cheap stuff because they import by the 1000 instead of the untrustworthy crop you can buy from China. I'm guilty of ordering from there too, but it's really starting to undermine us.

  • I wish functions baked in to browsers could be disabled like an extension, this adding ai to everything is getting as bad as all the bloatware you get on a new PC

  • I hope the west will continue with action against Israel over gaza AND the west bank. The genocide of Palestinians goes beyond the gaza strip area.

  • No, you made the classic mistake of listening to what he says instead of looking at what he does ;)

  • I don't disagree, but imagine eu started giving palestinians the same weapons as ukraine. Oof

  • So am I!

  • The title doesn't convey the actual law, thanks for adding description op.

Feels out of character for a Scandinavian country to pass such conservative law.

Belgium actually got social benefits like insurance for people doing sex work (which if you ask me, is work), if I remember correctly.

  • Obv that getting rid of putin & co would be beneficial to ordinary Russians.

  • Should have published that article 'How this magazine instantly kills their credibility without any effort' instead

  • We really need to stop treating 'overseas territories' as a place for unwanted things people. I mean Australia turned out fine, but it's uncivilized if you ask me.

  • Shots fired /s

  • Too soon to tell I think, also unclear how big the difference is between what people call it and what it actually is.

  • The new dilemma, do you kiss ass and get results, or not kiss ass but also don't get resultaten.

  • Those two are basically the same now

  • It's actually just N+ now

  • The article does explicitly mention him:

Jean-Luc Roméro, deputy mayor of Paris and a longtime LGBTQ rights activist, said “we didn’t know, unfortunately, that this monument would be inaugurated at one of the worst moments we’re going through right now.”

Referring to policies of U.S. President Donald Trump’s administration, Romero said “we’ve never experienced such setback in the United States, with what’s happening to trans people.”

  • I follow this guy on mastodon (@bert_hubert/@eupolicy.social) who writes on this, I looked up his site because he publishes his articles there: https://berthub.eu/ . He seems very knowledgable and doesn't just write on the basic stuff, which for me as a rookie is very useful and he is very good at explaining things. But aside from that, he seems very well-connected and has a large following. Whether you would go for it and need an audience or are exploring options, he might be of help. But personal opinion, I don't think this needs a citizens initiative to be addressed, since there is already things happening. You might not agree with how much is happening, but an initiative is not gonna chance that anyway. edit: inserted a / before the @
