  • Since people on Lemmy don’t read articles and only comment on headlines here’s why this is important:

As a deadly storm system approached the southeastern U.S. last week, North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper’s office asked top state officials to support his call for emergency help.

He needed approval from the other elected officials in North Carolina’s executive branch, a group of nine known as the Council of State, to exercise certain authorities under the N.C. Emergency Management Act. Their blessing would enable the Democratic governor to more easily mobilize rescue vehicles, order evacuations and begin other emergency actions by waiving some of the state’s transportation regulations for heavy vehicles.

Mark Robinson did not support the people of North Carolina when they needed him, but also keeps publicly insisting that Gov Cooper do more. Basically, he is and always will be a total fucking piece of shit.

  • You misread my comment. I said "just" as in "simply" not "recently." Words can have multiple meanings and uses. My point was that this is not an abrupt decision and has been in the works for quite a while because of the war, but it was not based on a decision "specifically tied to a recent development" in said war because it had been announced months ago in June when Belarus got kicked out. They just/simply have been waiting for the contracts of both groups of scientists to expire before sending them home for quite some time.

  • I recall this being announced earlier in the year, and it's the result of current (5yr) contracts expiring and not specifically tied to a recent development in the war or anything like that. CERN just decided not to renew contracts with Russian scientists who are solely affiliated with Russian institutes but had to wait for them to run out, and as the article points out, this already happened to scientists from Belarus back in June.

  • All 10 of us here stand united on this most exquisite and elevated of horses!

It’s like, this isn’t really a successful venture, right? We’re not really thriving like we were in the past, are we? We’re likely never going to get anything like that back either, huh

It's always the people with 0 post submissions complaining about this. It's always someone else's responsibility to create communities and find the content to fill them and it’s never enough. Just imagine how much more active the Lemmy side of the Fediverse would be if everyone submitted one article, meme, video, or podcast, etc. a day in some niche community of their choosing. But hey, I guess shitting on the opportunity we have to start fresh is a lot easier than committing to contribute to the slow but organic growth of another news aggregate.

  • At this point, refusing to fact-check a debate is just a tacit admission that you want to help the GOP. After all, JD Vance is on record saying he has no problem lying and making up things if he thinks it's politically advantageous. Tim Walz shouldn't have to cut into his time correcting the lies of an established liar. Why have journalists involved at all? Seems like it'd be cheaper to hire some bozo off the street to read the questions and only enforce time limits on the Democrat. You don't need Norah O’Donnell and Margaret Brennan to accomplish that.

  • Yep, that's what I said.

  • I think whoever buys infowars(dot)com should donate it to Dan and Jordan of the Knowledge Fight Podcast. That would be the perfect way to end things.

  • but I do have to find the choice of 9 other cherry-picked countries to be an odd comparison.

Just to be clear, the "cherry-picked" countries you think are an "odd comparison" are Australia, Canada, France, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Sweden, Switzerland and the United Kingdom.

  • "The other night I was watching this movie — I was watching this movie called Fright Night, Freak Night or some type of night but it was about vampires. I don’t know if you know but vampires are some cool people are they not? But let me tell you something that I found out: a werewolf can kill a vampire did you know that? I never knew that. So I don’t want to be a vampire anymore I wanna be a werewolf." - Herschel Walker, November 16th 2022

  • NC has a legitimate chance of going blue this cycle, and if that happens, it will be in no small part because of Mark Robinson. This guy is one of the worst candidates I've ever seen. Which is really saying a lot because the GOP have been running some absolute shitheads in the MAGA era.

    He bought the rope

They need to release the video of him making the purchase. They claim to have it but refuse to release it. There is no reason not to. So until that happens, there’s no reason to believe the cops.

    Edit: 🥾😋’s get blocked.

  • Right? I've been following the artist, Luke McGarry, on Instagram for a few years now, and his depictions of Trump have been hilariously cruel. Ordinarily I'd find it kind of tacky, but as far as I'm concerned, mocking Trump's physical appearance is fair game because he does it to everyone else. If he can dish it out, he should be able to take it too.
