  • 'Experts' have been saying this shit for years. Literally at least two decades.

Meanwhile, how many companies have had to backpedal (even recently) because they went too far with their dependency on AI, and everything went to shit and they had to rehire a bunch of humans?

  • Sounds about right, unfortunately.

I read a bit of the article and watched most of the YouTube video embedded in it. It's definitely worth a read/watch.

The video narrator keeps going back to the argument "they didn't tell the agents to do XYZ!" Yeah no shit, that's the whole point behind agents! They are autonomous and extrapolate actions based on the situation they find themselves in. The implication the guy is trying to make is that these agents are sentient, which is a stretch and a bit misleading.

But... it's still a really interesting series of exercises. Especially the Minecraft one. And if nothing else it gives researchers pointers about how they can improve agent decision-making, and everyone more insight into how they operate.

  • The Democrats don't seem to have a plan for 5 minutes from now, let alone for 3 or so years in the future.

But it sounds like they're in good company. Established politicians all over Europe seem lost by the current direction of global politics. Based on thus sticks there's lots of vague ideals with no implementation - more than you'd even expect to see normally.

And the Republican party is getting witlessly dragged along in the wake of those running the Trump administration. And it seems like even those 'masterminds' are just aggressively winging it based on the high-level objectives they outlined in Project 2025.

Everyone is lost and stumbling around in the dark. Some might have a faded glow stick in their hand, but that's not much help.

  • Ring’s controversial, AI-powered “Search Party” feature isn’t intended to always be limited only to dogs, the company’s founder, Jamie Siminoff, told Ring employees in an internal email obtained by 404 Media.

No. In America it will also be used to track brown- and tanned-skinned people for ICE to harass.

What a time to be alive! /s

  • "Don't do it again, Trump. Or we'll be forced to say 'don't do it again'... again."

  • Sure, keep firing lots of experienced, talented military professionals because their opinions offend you. And replace them with less competantent sycophants. I'm sure that won't have a negative impact on the daily operations of the US armed forces! /s

  • Good article.

Having seen the photo in the article about their hoop house, I can see why the city considered it a greenhouse. Hell, that thing is bigger than most residential greenhouses I've seen.

But what kind of a miserable shrew of a neighbor snitches on something like that?! It's a fucking greenhouse! Big deal!

It's awesome that this lady and her husband put that much work in and got so much success growing their own veggies. Like the article says, they are great examples to their kids, and to other people. If one of my neighbors went all-in like that I'd be cheering them on and getting inspired by them.

It's also sad that race seems to be an issue. But not unsurprising, if true.

Residential food gardens will continue to become an increasingly important and popular topic. With food prices rising and food quality declining, people will gravitate to it, like this family did. It's one thing if you're growing food on an industrial level in your yard. But few people are and will be doing that. Zoning permits should be relaxed a big in these cases.

  • Hmm, interesting. Thanks for the insight.

  • "It's a very empathetic place," she says of Reddit. "For my wedding, I've found help emotionally, logistically and inspiration-wise."

    Empathetic? Really?! On reddit?!!

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of good people still using it. But there are a ton of assholes and trolls poisoning a lot of discussions, deliberately antagonizing people, or derailing conversations with pedantic bullshit.

If she thinks Reddit is empathetic she'd be blown away by most of the Fediverse.

  • Another facial snack for the leopards.

  • Put some be damn clothes on, Kevin!

  • Has anyone checked the bedside table of that Norwegian athlete? Maybe he's been hording them.

  • Haha yeah. That's a very very low bar.

  • It makes sense for them to cut those flights if there's insufficient demand. But at the same time, not much of value is being lost. I flew Air Transat years ago on a long haul flight. I was warned beforehand it would be a no-frills flight. But holy shit, that was an understatement.

  • That's a ridiculously low bar, but it's also an important distinction.

Do I want Gavin Newsom to be the Democrat nominee for 2028? Hell no! He's revealed himself to be a shallow political opportunist and an ideological chameleon. And I think that party can do better.

But regardless, would he be an improvement over Trump? Hell yes!

Another question is: is he - a supposedly populist liberal from California - even electable on a national stage? I don't think so. But then, we live in very 'interesting' times. So who knows.

The third question is: will we have a fair enough election in 2028 (or an election at all)? That remains to be seen.

  • More likely thrusting in his grave.

  • Apparently images alone don't work. It has to be a video following a very specific set of instructions (looking to one side, then to the other, then straight ahead - or something like that).

But your point still stands. Apparently a lot of kids are getting around this by using AI generated videos, or having a parent do it for them, or just drawing giving facial hair onto themselves.

Yes, it's definitely worse than Discord. Discord without age verification is still mostly usable. Roblox without it isn't.

The silver lining for me is that my kids have basically abandoned the platform now. I told them I'm not sending their IDs in because there's such a huge risk of a data breach.

  • Sounds like she was a bad-ass.
