  • I know PieFed shows “Attitude” (the percentage of positive vs. negative votes you cast) on profiles, which is a nice touch. But aside from that metric, it doesn’t seem to physically limit the act of downvoting

    It does. When you downvote too much the ability to downvote is removed. You can't downvote post from user's profile page.

    There is some restriction.

    But imo, the most important thing would be how to currate content so user can find the most revalent one. That's somerhing that vote can't achieve. We have hashtag and flairs, what's left is to expand them with search function :Include, exclude, and, or...

  • Private communities

  • Sorry, i don't know if it is possible. I haven't tried/tested private community on Piefed. I recall you can add username to community. However, i wanted to react on switching private community to public community. There are case where you want to do that.

    However, i think it is sensible and shouldn't be allowed or not decided by the mods team at least. I wouldn't recommend switching private to public, whatever is the software. Because there are things we talk between ourselve, and they should stay that way.

    Maybe, it would requires to delete the whole posts and comments history ? Dunno, for me it would require people approval. Or something like mastodon that hide your post from people that aren't in your friend circle and then everyone could decide for themselve whatever is the community decision.

    For now the lastest updated app is interstellar and mlem. There is the check date. I will try this week-end to use every app and test them. But i'm busy :)

  • Je partirai sur yunohost comme systeme pour ton serveur et apres tu pioches dans le catalogue d'app.

    L'avantage de yunohost c'est qu'il t'offre un SSO sans que tu es besoin de le configurer. Donc ta femme et toi, vous aurez votre propro compte et vous pourrez vous connecter sur presque toute les apps avec vos propres identifiants.

  • Bell has limited but useful use case. Here are several mine :

    • being notified about news videos from a peertube channel. Eg : following fireside fedifellow or this community.
    • being notified about comments on a post that aren't your own. If the topic interest you it's neat
    • following someone or a bot. For example i subcribed to @Nono@piefed.social so i can get every post and say hi.

    But if you go overboard with the bell, you end up with thousand notifications. 😅

  • I would recommand at least two accounts per fediverse type (type = microblog, threadiverse...)

    So you can have a backup account in case your instance is down. Because currently there is no sync of our subcriptions, follows.

    I hope we will have a kind of nomadic identityto solve this.
