  • Bell has limited but useful use case. Here are several mine :

    • being notified about news videos from a peertube channel. Eg : following fireside fedifellow or this community.
    • being notified about comments on a post that aren't your own. If the topic interest you it's neat
    • following someone or a bot. For example i subcribed to @Nono@piefed.social so i can get every post and say hi.

    But if you go overboard with the bell, you end up with thousand notifications. 😅

  • User can change the community layout but i dunno if it is saved.

  • Newish to Fediverse - do I use one account across all services?

  • I would recommand at least two accounts per fediverse type (type = microblog, threadiverse...)

    So you can have a backup account in case your instance is down. Because currently there is no sync of our subcriptions, follows.

    I hope we will have a kind of nomadic identityto solve this.

  • En fait, je retrace le process :

    Comme nous utilisons souvent le fediverse (les modos + utilisateurices régulières), on detecte la panne. Souvent ça commence avec des ralentissement.

    Apres confirmation de d'autres personnes, nous la remontons aux sysadmins puis nous créons la communication sur !jlailu_statut@sh.itjust.works avec les infos que nous avons.

    C'est pour le moment, le seul outil que nous avons pour vous prévenir avec le chat sur Zulip.

    Jlailu backup sert pour les megafil.

    Avec @takapapatapaka@tarte.nuage-libre.fr, nous avons terminé la trad de piefed en français avec l'écriture inclusive et les lectures d'ecran pour les aveugles.

    Nous avons supprimé le point médian et mis à la place des mots comme utilisateurice. Par la suite, nous avons établis des règles de traduction.

  • I don’t care about “changing habits”. I just don’t want people that I care about being exploited and manipulated like that

    If ya want people to stop using big tech, you have to change their habits. You can't change it, they have built their network, found old friends...maybe one day but most of them aren't attracted by the fediverse.

    I want to have the equivalent of LinkedIn lunatics, and personal coaches and all that crap that one can find on Instagram/TikTok/Facebook.

    How do you handle this part with the above one (exploited, manipulated) ? I don't want them. I will leave or ask for defederation.

    I enjoy this place as it is. It doesn't need to be bigger. Once you remove it, i think plenty people will leave and create their own forum elsewhere as we did for Reddit.
