  • I absolutely hate that my CVT vehicle has a 1-2-D-N-R shifter with "Overdrive Button" because Nissan thought faux gearing would sell better. It randomly decides I must secretly rather hit 4000rpm+ than continue accelerating at a vaguely reasonable pace, and I say randomly because there is no discernable consistency re: pedal position, etc. The worst regular automatic I ever used was more consistent.

    To be clear, I find anything over 3000rpm unnecessary and annoying. At least in this vehicle, most of the time I can still accelerate faster than most other drivers without hitting that. Its like its trying to shame me for getting to the speed-limit quickly so I can settle-in to cruising without a truck up my ass.... for a few precious seconds anyways.

  • RE: your question about the deletion of a thread you put to me on a post you've since deleted or had taken down by mods or whatever:

    RE: your question about deleting a thread.

    I can't even see that thread, and as that was done by someone who has an account capable of making that thread-removal happen, likely as a mod or admin, I'mma say its their perogative.

    My facebook wall and posts are mine - there's plenty of shit comments I've had to delete for various reasons, and if you have a problem with it, I would suggest not using facebook. Same goes for comments on Youtube vids. I'm unaware of any reason Mastodon should, or you would expect them to, handle comments on blog-posts or whatever any differently.

    Ownership and curration of one's space and blocking are inherrent in the idea of voluntary federation/de-federation. I can't delete replies to my posts on Lemmy in general, but that's because they aren't made to a community that I own or moderate, or the same for an instance with admins.

  • Could mean their account's deactivated or they blocked you, but only after that hit your inbox? You got me. Blocking is weird on Lemmy, but other than this, I like it.

  • Gotta disable UPNP to commit to this specific strategy ...

  • Just as likely that red sliver at the end was the traffic created by his intentional usage of the phone all-along. Telemetry and ads are just that gross, but what do I know?

  • I might, but I need it to use exactly this level of context. Tell me their full names or where the building is, and I'm out.

  • Unless the stems are breaking, that's what repair-tabs are for. That said, I can't believe that's still the only way the slats are being hung.

    Oh wait, I found a thing. I was thinking some sort of clamp would be best, and that's basically what these are.

    Somehow, I doubt it keeps them from being pulled-down again, but at least you should be able to just put them back up again and again this way.

  • Definitely not the cats. Gotta have curtains long-enough to tuck-under them so they can enjoy the couch-cushions and the view, particularly if I want the curtains to also do their duty stopping glare on the TV in the far-corner.

  • Never understood the vertical blinds made of fabric or other flimsy materials. The kind I grew up with, the kind I miss, were thick plastic or vinyl. You could paint them

  • It's always surprising to me to see her depicted as flustered like this. If the snakes aren't also poisonous then what's the point? Oh wait, she's consistently taller and thicker than her guests too?

    ... so where's the part where she legit has no choice but to engage and demand they look at her face? Don't come back with some "you have to accept being turned to stone to show respect for her as a person not an object" -take either; All I see is a brat in this version.

    I don't even care about the lack of hospitality. Uninvited guests? That's where I understand wanting to petrify, hurt, kill, intimidate or run-away from them, but again, that's not this. This is more like ... flirting.

  • I miss vertical blinds. Our cats destroyed all our horizontal blinds, so we just keep the curtains closed for privacy.

  • Honestly one of my first thoughts about this mess, or when I see countries pulling this shit and people fretting about x y z website; That web-site is either going to make the stupid choice to comply and apply those policies world-wide, or stop acknowleging said country exists by any means possible. Other sites will step-in to take over the surrendered market-share.

    If your company and servers are anywhere else, you are under no obligation to comply or even block Brittain. Let Brittish companies and government bear the burden of enforcing their non-sense on their prisoners, sorry, I mean "citizens".

  • I mean, in assigning the different outlooks to specifically Europe/America, sure, but they are far from entirely wrong, even there.

    It's more like America and its banana-republic/media-obsessed/victimized/allied/vassal lackeys versus saner parts of the world, or Rich vs Poor(which outlooks would be flipped in different areas), but beyond that and placing their post in YSK instead of somewhere more centered on conversation or argument, I still saw far more "defensive" comments than OP could bear any real blame for.

  • It's amusing how much blowback you're getting without even having stated a preference. Are people assuming the mods here or useless or just haven't seen this or what?

    People here are way too worked up about motivations they've assumed and won't bother with seeing proved or disproven.

    Meannwhile, if I see a post I think doesn't fit, I figure the mods should be approving posts rather than play whack-a-mole, realize its not my problem, and move-on. As an American, I'll go on record; The "American" outlook on the "marketplace of ideas" is stupid, precisely because the substantiation part of the sale is essentially optional to most - you can get by on pandering to niche biases as the need arises.

  • I think the downvotes are mostly for that last sentence. Comes across a little-bit as you saying "YOU SHOULD respect him".

    EDIT: THIS comment makes a little more sense now, but I've still only seen these two new accounts with a single post plus maybe a comment each, so far. Hardly enough to skip to a "social experiment" conclusion.

  • Apologies if I've said something to confuse you, but I'm not even a "dev", let alone a lemme dev. I'm just old, for a millenial.

    That said, you could try something like:

    ::: spoiler 2

    :::

    ... but that's the best I've come-up with just yet. I had thought we could maybe fit multiple of the collapsible-arrows on one line like-so, but both a text label(the 1 and 2) and line-breaks are mandatory/required to make the lemmy spoiler-tag work. It's the single mark-down I find most annoyingt to work with here.

    Now that we have our criteria narrowed-down, you mind if I cross-post your post to another community/instance? From what I've heard of the devs, they likely won't be watching lemmy.ml, so this community you've posted in seems to be more for discussion of activity on lemmy, not-so-much lemmy developement.

  • I thought you were aiming for screen take-over, to be honest. That or DRM, where you prevent downloads and/or screen-shots. Now you've got me wondering if we could hack a solution together with the existing Lemmy markup, but I doubt it.
