  • I really don't like how the "protect the children" excuse every neo fascist government is touting to sell their wet dreams of tracking everyone 24/7, still gets debated like it has any validity. Kudos to Japan for having seemingly working child protection laws, but this just doesn't have any relevance to the surveillance machine that's currently being built around us. It's coming even if every child disappeared today. I'd rather see more active discussions around what the next steps are, alternatives to the current web and guides how to set them up for example.

  • Startpunkt und Druckmittel der USA ist das Visa-Waiver-Programm, das es den Staatsangehörigen der 42 beteiligten Staaten ermöglicht, sich bis zu 90 Tage ohne Visum in den Staaten aufzuhalten. Wie der STANDARD berichtete, möchten die USA hierfür nun auf biometrische Daten in Europa zugreifen können. Von einer solchen Vollmacht wären nicht nur Reisende betroffen, sondern alle Menschen, deren Daten je von der Polizei erfasst wurden – also auch Zeugen oder Asylsuchende. Ein solcher Zugriff wäre beispiellos.

    Für die EU‑Mitgliedstaaten jedoch offenbar vorstellbar: Kurz vor Weihnachten erteilten sie der Europäischen Kommission das Mandat, mit den USA über ein Rahmenabkommen für die ganze Union zu verhandeln. In ihrem entsprechenden Schreiben betonten die Mitgliedsstaaten maßgeblich, dass das "Hauptziel" des Abkommens "die Gegenseitigkeit beim Informationsaustausch" sein müsste.

    In gefärbtem Sandspielprodukten (Magic Sand, Kinetischer Sand, Deko- und Bastelsand, Montessori-Sandspieltischen) aus China wurde in Australien und Neuseeland, aber auch in den Niederlanden und Belgien in zahlreichen Produkten Asbest nachgewiesen. Untersuchungsergebnisse von Behörden stehen aber noch aus.

    Update 19.02.26: Erste Untersuchungen des belgischen Wirtschaftsministeriums zu Produkten aus dem stationären Handel zeigten keine oder nur geringe Spuren von Asbest. Zudem gab es erste entsprechende Produktrückrufe.

    The f-droid team spoke to that in a recent post. The post basically said that if that change isn't stopped on a government level there's no way for them to continue working. They didn't mention roms.

  • Thanks for the help and advice. What was the issue with your meshtastic experiment? If it's location granularity that's something I might be prepared to deal with.

    My privacy expectations are as follows:

    • No account needed with any major tech monopoly
    • No app where any data other than tag location is transmitted through the internet. Ideally the data transmission would have e2ee.
