  • Imagine knowing every time the person who cared for you most in the world almost slipped up because they were exasperated with you. And there's no real way to know when it's a bad time to read their mind, if it isn't always on. I think it would be hard to be really close to anyone if you could read their mind and they couldn't stop you.

  • Cashback was a good take on this.

  • The movie wasn't half as good as the book, imo, except for the car scene.

  • Fair point, and if ypure worried about privacy while transferring images, a VPN should have already been considered.

  • I would think e2ee would be important if youre uploading files when away from your local network. If that isn't enabled, then it's far less important. At that point, it would only matter if there was a compromised client harvesting your wifi packets.

  • The world needs those two gifs combined so we can more easily (and awesomely!) answer this question in the future.

  • Why is fuck optional and not work?

  • The particular of the constitution that says you don't have to follow the constitution is certainly part of the constitution. I wouldn't say it makes using it constitutional, bit it certainly makes it clear that you don't intend to follow the constitution. I honestly can't think of many valid reasons to use the notwithstanding clause that aren't to address existential threats to our nation or its people, or to trample their constitutiinal rights. I don't think kids having to stay home for a week fits the first category...

  • The answer to that is to do what God said to do to hasten his coming: spread the gospel. Not ban abortions, arrest gay people, criminalize trans people. Spread the gospel. Anything else is them using religion as an excuse to promote their opinions. I realize a lot of people here recognize that, but I still think it needs to be said.

  • For all you know he's a future Hitler. Just tell him his art looks nice.

  • Second best reason I've seen for keeping them around.

  • Yeah, could is doing a fair bit of lifting. What, does he have to decide to stay here full-time? Well, sure, if he did that, I'm sure security, dignitary visits, etc. could ramp us up to those numbers, but the entire royal family usually only costs us a few million a year for their visits. Increasing that by a factor of 20 for just one individual seems a bit alarmist.

Now, I can accept there are perfectly legitimate reasons to want to get rid of the monarchy, I just don't see it as worth it from a pragmatic or financial standpoint. If they decide to have more impact than their quaint celebrity status and their names on a few rubber stamps, I imagine a lot of people like me would shrug and say, "Welp, end of a era, looks like we're designing some new money." I expect prince Andrew deciding to cost us almost $60M while having to put up with his presence would do it. And don't think the rest of his family doesn't know it.

  • A ballot abstention still counts as your voice being heard, even if it isn't for a candidate.

  • When that is the light in your day....

  • India is still in the process of resolving their tariffs with America. That's just the one I was aware of from recent news. So now we're up to at least 4. How many times do I have to prove you wrong while you provide nothing to support your claims?

Oh, which wars has America won against guerilla forces? The laughable War on Terror? Where Trump arranged the withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan and handed the country to the Taliban, one of the initial belligerents in the war? Or Iraq, where it collapsed to one of the variety of IS groups mere years after they withdrew?

Once again, your opinions are presented as facts with nothing to back it up except your deeply held beliefs topped off with slurs. You remind me of the quote, "A lie is halfway round the world before the truth has got its boots on." And I'm bored of refuting your opinions with contradicting facts, and I can't be bothered to stoop to your level with the name calling.

  • You mention 3 countries in your list. Care to give your opinions on the other 87 countries?

Also, I never said Canada would attack America. America has already started a trade war and threatened to annex us. I wouldn't rule out that devolving into something faster or more aggressive from the guy who wondered why nuclear missiles were just left sitting in silos instead of using them and renamed the Department of Defense to the department of War.

  • What's the point of negotiating with Trump? We had a trade deal negotiated with him that went into effect 5 years ago. Now he's doing all the shit we've seen for this whole year. 5 years is yesterday in political and economic terms. Also, you are wrong. He visited in May and October, so 2 visits in 7 months. And people all over the world have tried to make deals with Trump. Almost none of them have worked out at all, let alone well.

As for an actual war, with armies meeting in the field? I don't need to be a tactician to see that trying to go toe to toe with the country that spends more than the next 9 largest militaries in the world, which does not include Canada, is a fools errand. I also don't think our military leaders are fools. I'd be completely unsurprised to learn that they have a plan for guerilla warfare should America try to invade. In spite of their military spending, they haven't been successful against those since Vietnam, and we are uniquely positioned to bring a guerilla war into their territory.

  • All of your responses boil down to, "I disagree and you hurt my feelings." I wouldn't call that statement brilliant, but I guess it could be to some. If you don't want to be mistaken for a snowflake, you might want to not let yourself get too worked up when strangers on the internet disagree with you.

If typing is hard, copy this:

Read up on it, and you might have an idea why your responses do little to promote your opinions.

And if you want to use memes to get the point across, here's mine:

  • A cogent, well-reasoned response. I'm convinced!
