I try to not dwell on them. The more you entertain them, the more they grind you down. Accept it’s natural to have them, but you cannot change the past, so focus on learning, and redemption. Use them as a force for self improvement.

I have learning difficulties, I cannot function if I focus on my mistakes because I’m prolific. Acceptance and move on.

What I try to do is rationalize around the negative thoughts. I first try to think if what I’m thinking is really realistic.

For example if I think “damn I really am worthless” I try to ask myself “For what reason? Is it really true?” and try to find alternate explanations as to why I’m having those negative feelings that don’t involve something that is an unmovable fact or trait and work from there.

I also try to separate myself from the thought, as if it was someone else telling me that and how I would react to that, which is normally with disbelief and thinking the other person is being too harsh on themselves. That sometimes breaks the spiral, sometimes it doesn’t, ans of course this doesn’t work for everyone.

We are our own worst judges and our brains tend to magnify our negative sides more than any external person ever would. I’m no expert in this so take the advice with a grain of salt. Take lots of care 💜

I like that you’re asking this question, but you really need to be a lot more specific.

Like negative self talk vs obsessively ruminating about something vs world pessimism vs constant anger at others vs. etc. are gonna have to be tackled in different ways. One of the reasons why therapists want you to name your feelings is because you’re going to have to do different sorts of things to help with different sorts of feelings and emotions.

Do you mind expanding a bit, OP?

    Beat them into submission.

Of course i try to analyze and pinpoint where or how those started and whatever those have some basis in reality from observers perspective, which helps to improve myself and makes beating those into submission easier and rarer.
