I’d say a life spent in front of a gaming computer is a waste, which would apply to him sadly. I may not have always made the smart choice but I can definitely say I’m happy now.
Seems like its not a waste to your brother. Video games have helped me a ton in life with dealing with depression. Being able to escape into a fun world really helps you take a moment to find relief from a sad reality. It might seem like a lot to you but it might be what someone needs to get through a rough period of time.
I’ve dated and known a few man who more or less fit that description. They were mostly pretty lonely, even if they’re happy with their direction overall. I’m not saying that you have to get married or to have children in order to not be lonely, so much as that people tend to keep their loneliness hidden.
What he mostly reminds me of is a movement or group or whatever that got warped into incel stupidity: Men Going Their Own Way or MGTOW. He doesn’t have a gram of hate for anyone. He’s just fine on his own.
My brother is in his 40’s. No children, never married. Just bought a house.
I have to assume he saw all the trouble I got into chasing women, and made better choices.
But I’m happy with my wife, so I dunno.
