It’s pretty miserable to play solo unless you tweak the settings heavily, and I’m saying that as someone tackling GregTech New Horizons solo at the moment.
The only 2 settings that I need to tweak to play solo is just turning off the surface rifts, and I give myself 3 days with no spawns. That calms things down enough to get a mud hut base up, and makes it easy.
I also like extending the month time out to 30 days, but that provides its own problems, because crops take a LOT longer to grow.
It’s the one game I’ve been the most excited about for many years, but I can’t play it until it has native controller support. I can’t play with KB/M due to back pain, I’ve tried several mappings/layouts and mods (like knapster) but it just feels bad and even after forcing myself to get comfortable and playing around with everything it never gets to a point where it’s a major hurdle for just enjoying the game.
As far as I know it’ll het controller support sometime in the future though, so I’m patiently waiting and am still very excited to dive into it once that happens!
Try out Vintage Story. Once you find the chisel, you’ll never look back.

It’s hours of good fun. I’m chiseling a LARGE statue of Azura out of white marble.
