      Even if it wasn’t, how does that make the trees perfectly straight? Are they not subject to wind and sun like the trees below them?

        It’s usually trees that are good at growing straight like birch but as they’re growing when they’re young they’re bifurcated a bunch and pulled down to the ground. The main trunk is usually under 15’ so it’s fair safe to stand on to chop down the trees that sprout via epicormic growth.
