Juneteenth is a U.S. holiday commemorating black emanicipation and power that originates from Galveston, Texas, where, on this day in 1865, Union General Gordon Granger proclaimed all slaves in Texas, more than 250,000 people, to be free.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of slave abolition in the United States.

I honestly wouldn’t put much stock in any opinion of someone so vehemently pro-democrat and unwilling to educate themselves on genocide of Palestinians outside very niche topic, his general work is quite tone deaf and mostly revolves around making sure his group (middle class black Americans) get a good slice of pie.

Fair, but there aren’t a lot of black creators with videos like his on the left that talk about the issues he talks about with a black lens. It’s good to go on realizing his blind spots, but there’s still some value there I’ve found.

As for my movie review, that’s all me. It’s not like I went in with lowered expectations or anything because of his comments on it, I actually went in with super high expectations because of all the fanfare and buzz and the Oscar. I would’ve thought the same even if I hadn’t seen him talk about it. My partner doesn’t watch him, for example, and it was interesting to hear her have some similar thoughts.
