Wrt to the latest back and forth on the role of Islam in Iran in the news mega, I will say that material reality will re-assert itself. The whole world will indeed move on whether an individual likes the way it moves or not.
Islamic movements, including those with radical visions of an alternate economic order, will undoubtedly gain increased vigour as Iran’s success in the battlefield translates to material gains. The question is whether Communists recognise it in their analysis and want to be part of that future or continue living in a simulacrum far removed from the present and future realities.
As for communists in the Islamicate - we all already know the answer.
Saw that and thought it was a bit weird the amount of pushback that Alhouthi got. Then again I feel like there was a lot of the same pushback when our West Asian comrades were explaining what Jewish Supremacy is. You’d think that “leftists” would want to take the opportunity to see things from a different perspective, in particular from people from a region that is currently resisting the USian empire, yet instead of learning they just seem to take offense.
Western “marxists” haven’t let go of their reddit atheism phase. Yeah criticize shit when you see it but to exclude and diminish the role islam has in the resistance against imperialism is gonna turn away countless people from your movement. Can’t speak for arab communists but white ones are always on some bs. As expected.
