Not sure what airports the OOP fellow has been to, but there are times I’ve been off the plane really quickly with checked luggage, and all I earn is a longer wait at baggage claim.

They aren’t in any rush at Canadian airports.

As for the second, there are a myriad of ways to solve that problem:

    • Brew your own coffee.
    • Go to a coffee shop that doesn’t have a dessert menu for a coffee list.
    • If you must order at a large mainstream chain, order ahead.

It’s not exactly the same as an express line, but IIRC Starbucks already has a process where if you order brewed black coffee, the cashier dispenses it for you before taking the next customer, rather than turning it over to the baristas’ queue. There are so many things you can say about Starbucks, but failing to understand efficiency is rarely one of them.

I’ve seen an occasional Tim Horton’s location have a separate “coffee only” line, which has always been a misnomer, because they’ll invariably just let you order whatever you want anyways; but it does usually go a bit faster because the majority of customers are still honest enough to join the appropriate queue.
