Explanation: In the Holocaust, the Nazis persecuted and brutally exterminated numerous minorities on an industrialized scale, one of the greatest crimes of the 20th century, if not human history as a whole. The justification, generally, was of racial ‘impurity’, with the Nazi worldview prioritizing ‘Aryan’ peoples over non-Aryan ones.
One of the minorities so-persecuted were the Romani people (sometimes, colloquially, ‘gypsies’, though the term is considered offensive in many circles and should be avoided in modern usage), who are literally an Aryan peoples.
Racist fascist morons don’t even give a fuck about their own justifications, and will make up any mental gymnastics to persecute those whom they feel they can. No consistency needed. The cruelty is the point.
this is why i kinda feel racism isn’t a great term, it’s just sparkling xenophobia
Some modern people self describe as gypsies, but that’s somewhat besides the point since most don’t. I think this is not a Eskimo/Indian thing where there was no unifying historical word and current language policy tries forcing a new word that is not including all or overly general. (Incas are American natives but not indians and some Eskimo are decidedly not Inuit)
Anyone who hasn’t seen it before, go read Tolkien’s letter to the nazis when he wanted to publish the hobbit in Germany.
I am not of Aryan extraction: that is Indo-Iranian; as far as I am aware none of my ancestors spoke Hindustani, Persian, Gypsy, or any related dialects. But if I am to understand that you are enquiring whether I am of Jewish origin, I can only reply that I regret that I appear to have no ancestors of that gifted people
