I’m not going to spend more than 5 minutes doing anything for their company simply to apply to a job they posted.
They are going to use AI to judge your cover letter. Use AI to write it.
I’ve already done this several times, it’s pretty interesting. I read through it before sending to ensure it properly represents me, not having to write it out is a huge relief.
Ya, I probably should have noted proofreading anything AI slops out. I’m actually on a hiring committee at the moment and AI slop artifacts like emojis in a resume tend to be a red flag with some of the committee members. Though, I find this kinda ironic as our company has been pushing AI usage. so, why shouldn’t we expect it from our candidates? Just don’t use AI during the technical interview, we’re gonna notice.
Granted, being old enough that I yell at clouds, I’ll file any resume with emojis in it (regardless of source) under /dev/null.
Depends on the job! Junior lettuce assistant @maccieD vs. CEO of Big Business Hold Them Hooters Inc.
Yeah and it kinda annoys me this is one of those tech things that seems to be all on the user and not on the company. If AI is so great why is not finding things through linkedin. I keep a robust amount of info on it that is more than my resume plus it has my connections plus it has references I have been given and given to others. This is something that should be so paltry that software should be able to do it way before ai and llms. Somehow though its not up to a company to find a canidate but up to canidates to convince jobs to hire them or some such bs. I mean there is literally an open for work flag. I also very much agree that job seekers should be compensated. minimum wage for remote interview time and if its in person then a travel stipend as well. fifty cents a mile. I have felt this way ever since I had my first day long interview. We will see how long they want to do interviews if it actually cost them.
I hate doing cover letters. That’s the most amount of work I should do to apply
There are a ton of reasons a job posting might be bogus. I wouldn’t write a cover letter without some indication that it’s a real live job.
